Applications & Uses

Application Method
Intended Uses

A heavily modified asphaltic emulsion paint designed to be surface tolerant and corrosion resistant (2,000 HR Salt Fog HRS , ASTM B117). It may be used over tight rust and tightly adhering old paint as well as primed surfaces. Easy Kote® provides an attractive flat finish that resists cracking , peeling and damage from modest heat (up to 350° F / 150C) and reverse impact. Easy Kote® can be used in vapor space of Asphalt or Hot Oil Barges up to 400°F.

Surface Preparations

SSPC-SP1. EASY KOTE® is formulated for extreme surface tolerance but life expectancy is always dependent on degree of loose rust, rust scale and unsecured old paint removal. Any oil, grease or chemical contamination must be removed. Descaling until all loose material has been removed is required. Note: Easy Kote® will promote descaling on surfaces that have not been thoroughly descaled. Over coating mill scale which is very brittle does not ensure that mil scale will not release from steel.

Application

Film Thickness

  • 10 Wet Mils (6 DFT).

Coverage

  • 166 FT2 / Gall @ 6 DFT

Method of Application : Airless Spray, Brush, Roller

Mixing

Use drum mixer with 8" blade and minimum 1/2 HP motor for 10 minutes prior to use.

Thinner

5% water by volume maximum

Airless Spray

Recommended

  • Tip Range 0.58-0.79 mm (23-31 thou)
  • 30:1 pump size minimum
  • Material temperature for optimum spraying is 65°F - 90°F

Conventional Spray

Application by conventional spray is not recommended.

Brush

Application by brush is recommended for small areas only. Multiple coats may be required to achieve specified film thickness.

Roller

Application by roller is recommended for small areas only. Multiple coats may be required to achieve specified film thickness.

Cleaner

Water only is needed to flush lines. To remove dry coating use Xylene (CAS# 100-41-4)

Work Stop / Cleanup

Do not allow material to remain in hoses, gun or spray equipment. Thoroughly flush all equipment with Cleaner. Once units of paint have been mixed they should not be resealed and it is advised that after prolonged stoppages work recommences with freshly mixed material. Clean all equipment immediately after use with cleaner. It is good working practice to periodically flush out spray equipment during the course of the working day. Frequency of cleaning will depend upon amount sprayed, temperature and elapsed time, including any delays. Do not exceed pot life limitations. All surplus materials and empty containers should be disposed of in accordance with appropriate regional regulations/legislation.

Welding

In the event welding or flame cutting is performed on metal coated with this product, dust and fumes will be emitted which will require the use of appropriate personal protective equipment and adequate local exhaust ventilation.
