- Labeling Claims
- Benefits
Ursolic Acid is found to have the following benefits:
- Collagen and elastin synthesis
- Repair photo-aged skin
- Product Highlights
The genus name Salvia, is derived from the Latin salvere, "to be saved", in reference to the healing properties of plant. Ursolic acid forms the oilresistant barrier on the skin. It inhibits the action of elastase in the skin, thereby preventing the enzyme from attacking structural proteins. Ursolic acid has been used to treat photo-aged skin because it helps prevent and improve the appearance of wrinkles and age spots by restoring the skin's collagen bundle structures and its elasticity.

- Formulation Guidelines
- Use stainless steel (SS316) vessels for production. Avoid contact with iron or copper
- Solubilize Sage Extract in one of the recommended solvents before adding it to emulsion below 40°C
- Nonionic and anionic emulsifiers are to be used
- Maintain the pH of the formulation slightly acidic, preferably between pH 5.0-6.0
- Sage Extract can be gelled using thickeners such as carbomer, acrylates copolymer and lecithin
- Opaque packaging is recommended for the finished product formulation
- Protect the finished product from exposure to direct heat and light
- Sage Extract is suitable for use in creams and translucent to opaque gels/ serums
- Sage Extract is not suitable for use in clear gels/serums/toners
- Use antioxidants and photostabilizers in the formulations
