HydroSal™ Natural Antiseptic is a sub-micron delivery system ranging from 0.1 to 0.9 microns in diameter (Figure 1). The technology consists of a porous core infused with a blend of botanical extracts and a polymer shell that facilitates the release of the ingredients.
When HydroSal™ Natural Antiseptic is applied to skin or surface and the water from the formulation evaporates, the shell locks down onto the porous core. This forms a diffusion barrier from which the botanical oils can be slowly released for long-lasting protection against microorganisms. Additionally, the shell is designed to provide a burst of release when exposed to moisture. The shell reseals when the moisture evaporates, allowing additional bursts of antibacterial protection when it is needed most.

Long-Lasting Retention on Skin
HydroSal™ Natural Antiseptic shows greater and longer-lasting retention on skin when compared to its free, non-encapsulated form. An in-vivo study was conducted comparing HydroSal™ Natural Antiseptic to its free form in a lotion (Figure 2). After the lotions were applied to the skin of volunteers, ethanol extractions were performed followed by GC/MS analysis at time zero and at eight hours. HydroSal™ Natural Antiseptic generates much higher initial retention on skin as well as after eight hours compared to the free.

A similar study was done comparing HydroSal™ Natural Antiseptic in a spray application to the nonencapsulated ingredients in a spray . Ethanol extractions were taken at six hours and analyzed by GC/ MS. Results indicate that the HydroSal™ Natural Antiseptic in a spray has ten times the retention power of its free form.
