HydroSal® SalSilk is a sub-micron sphere designed to deliver keratin. The keratin is infused within the porous core, which is encapsulated by a polymeric shell. The shell is designed to enhance the adhesion of the keratin complex to the hair and prolong its benefits. HS SLK restores natural shine, repairs damage, helps maintain healthy hair appearance, and battles thinning hair. Thinning hair is a problem during aging for women and men everywhere, especially women in the post-menopausal phase of their life.

    HydroSal™ SalSilk is a sub-micron sphere delivery system composed of keratin (Figure 1). The keratin is infused within the porous core, which is surrounded by a shell. The shell is designed to enhance adhesion of keratin to the hair and prolong its release and yield increased visual hair thickness

    Keratin is a natural protein that acts as a key structural component of hair and provides its overall healthy appearance. Age and exposure to chemicals depletes this protein, damaging the hair surface and accelerating the aging and thinning process.

    Keratin, in most applications, does not readily adhere to hair without being chemically processed with formaldehyde, a toxic substance that has been classified as a human carcinogen.

    Immediate and Visible Improvement

    Hair was treated with a rinse-off conditioner loaded with HydroSal™ SalSilk . After the conditioner was rinsed off, the hair was blown dry and combed through. The technology seals and protects the hair shaft, which provides immediately thicker hair as well as lasting shine and a rich, healthy appearance.

    A study was done to compare HydroSal™ SalSilk in a rinse-off application to free keratin and a market product (Goldwell Kerasilk) in rinse-off applications (Figure 5). Hair strands treated with HydroSal™ SalSilk increased in thickness six-fold compared to strands treated with free keratin while the benchmark product resulted in a decrease in hair thickness of approximately 85 microns.

    Dose Response Study

    The effect of HydroSal™ SalSilk on esthetics was evaluated at different levels in a leave-on conditioner . A panel of volunteers evaluated desirable shine and softness on a scale of 0 to 5, with 5 being the most desirable.
