    SalSphere™ Severe Acne Relief is an advanced technology that delivers salicylic acid (SA) and other functional ingredients to fight the various signs and causes of the more severe cases of acne. This comprehensive formula is the last resort topical solution before seeking treatment by a dermatologist.

    In typical skincare formulations, it is challenging to formulate with functional ingredients that require different pH levels for optimal activity in a single product. SalSphere® technology keeps the ingredients from counteracting one another and maximizes efficacy.

    SalSphere™ Severe Acne Relief is a sub-micron sphere delivery system ranging from 0.1 to 0.3 microns in diameter. The sphere consists of a polymer shell that enhances adhesion to lipids, such as comedones, to facilitate targeted treatment where it is needed most. The core is made up of lipophilic ingredients that modulate the release of the multiple functional ingredients as the system partitions into the skin. The slow release mechanism of SalSphere™ technology facilitates skin-friendly treatment by delivering smaller “dosages” of functional ingredients over time.

    Sebum Control without Drying

    SS SAR reduces sebum from oily skin without causing dryness. SS SAR reduced sebum nearly to the ideal level, as contrasted to the free ingredients.

    Improved Retention on Skin 

    When used in a wash, SS SAR deposits almost 10 times more salicylic acid onto skin.

    Targeted Treatment

    SalSphere™ Severe Acne Relief demonstrates enhanced penetration compared to the free form of salicylic acid. In a clinical study (n=6), SalSphere™ Severe Acne Relief in a lotion and free salicylic acid in a lotion were applied to the forearms of volunteers. Ethanol extractions were performed over a period of six hours and analyzed by HPLC.

    SalSphere™ Severe Acne Relief is better able to maintain salicylic acid on the skin for a period of six hours. The delivery system makes functional ingredients available on the skin for a longer period of time to enhance treatment benefits.

    Skin- Friendly

    SalSphere™ Severe Acne Relief delivers a powerful complex of acne-fighting ingredients in a slow release manner in order to maintain a skin-friendly pH in the range of 4.5 to 5.5. A study was done comparing SalSphere™ Severe Acne Relief in a face wash to free salicylic acid in a face wash (Figure 3). Volunteers (n=6) washed allocated areas with each application. Skin pH was measured using the Hanna® HI 99181 pH meter over four hours.

    The area on the skin treated with SalSphere™ Severe Acne Relief maintains a skin-friendly pH throughout the four hours. The area treated with free salicylic acid, however, experiences a drop in pH below 4.0 at application. This low level of pH is conducive to skin irritation, a side effect that will further disturb the acne problem being treated in the first place. By four hours, the skin treated with free salicylic acid fails to re-balance itself and remains outside the skin-friendly pH range.
