Features & Benefits

Features

POLYTHICK 430-SA has the following features: ·

  • Exhibits high adhesive strength and excellent tackiness on glass, metal and plastics. Also, this product is applicable particularly to producing self-adhesive labels used for frozen foods, due to its high adhesive strength at low temperatures and on wet surfaces.
  • Displays high transparency and excellent weather resistance because the main component is an acrylate polymer.
  • Easily soluble in organic solvents such as ethyl acetate and toluene.

Applications & Uses

Application Methods

1. Preparation of Coating Solution ·

  • For coating solution, POLYTHICK 430-SA and the melamine-based curing agent, Melan 2000*1, should be mixed in the following proportions. (wt %) POLYTHICK 430-SA: 100 (wt %) Melan 2000*1: 1.0 − 2.0 (wt %).
  • To adjust the concentration or viscosity of the coating solution for different amounts of coating, it should be diluted using ethyl acetate, toluene, or a combination of the two.

2. Coating

  • Coating machines such as gravure roll coaters and comma coaters are generally used. The coating amount to be applied depends on the kind of substrate and application. However, the standard amount is 10 − 70 g(residue on evaporation)/m2 to achieve sufficient adhesive strength. Table 1 shows general coating methods

3. Drying

  • Use of a hot-air dryer with multiple heat settings is recommended because this product contains an organic solvent with a low boiling point. The coating should be dried very well so that none of the organic solvent remains.

4. Curing

  • After being dried, the coating should be cured for about 2 days between 40 and 60 °C.
