Seaforth Mineral Barium Carbonate

Barium Carbonate is also known as witherite and used in applications such as bricks, ceramics, glazes, cement, the chemical industry and as a flux. The formula is BaC0₃ and other names include carbonic acid, barium salt and barium monocarbonate. It is manufactured from barite (barium sulfate) and is a white powder that comes in several variations of grain sizes.

First Aid Measures
  • Eyes: Flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid.
  • Skin: Get medical aid if irritation develops or persists. Rinse area with large amounts of water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes.
  • Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. If victim is conscious and alert, give 2‐4 cupfuls of milk or water. Get medical aid immediately.
  • Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. Get medical aid immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Do not use mouth‐to‐mouth resuscitation. If breathing has ceased apply artificial respiration using oxygen and a suitable mechanical device such as a bag and a mask.
  • Notes to Physician: Treat symptomatically and supportively.
