Drying conditions :
This raw material contains no isocyanate, hydroxy, carboxy or epoxy groups. Reactive groups of SiliXan U 400 are silicon alkoxy groups, which can be cured to Si-O-Si-bonds with tailor-made crosslinking catalysts (SiliXan® Cat) or with standard additives such as blocked acids, amines, compounds of Ti or Zr. The material can either be cured at room temperature with moistue or accelerated at temperatures between 40 ° C and 200 °C or shortly at 250 °C. For use as an automotive clearcoat a curing at 140°C for 20 minutes with SiliXan Cat 200 is recommended.
Solubility / thinnability :
SiliXan U 400 can be thinned with esters, ether esters, alcohols, xylene and toluene. The storage stability of the respective solutions must be tested. The raw material is unsoluble in water and in benzine. The solvents should have a water content <0,1%. Traces of water can lead to unwanted condensation reaction of slicon alkoxy groups.
Compatibility :
SiliXan U 400 is miscible with the usual coating raw materials such as resins and binders based on isocyanates, polyester or acrylate polyols, silicone or melamine types. The compatibility with other types of binder must be checked in particular cases.

Storage & Handling

The shelf life of the product is 6 months, provided the original container is stored tightly closed at +15 to +25 ° C. Opened containers should be processed shortly. The expiry date of each batch appears on the product label. Storage beyond the indicated period does not necessarily mean that the product is useless. However, in this case a review of the properties for the respective application is essential for reasons of quality assurance.
