"Sogel Inc. is a manufacturing and service company specialized in the formulation and production of leading-edge gel coat and unsaturated resins for the composites industry. Founded in 2000, Sogel Inc. is a privately owned company created by Mr. Claude Pilon, a leading chemist in the gel coat industry. Before founding Sogel, Mr. Pilon worked for some of the largest producers of gel coats, resins and fiberglass parts in North America. Sogel has achieved a position of North American specialist in the innovation, formulation and development of high technology gel coats by offering a vast line of sophisticated and innovative products. For instance, we are pioneers in the development of gel coats for different styren free backing (polyurethane, epoxy and Twintex® technologies). We are also leaders in the development of one step metallic gel coats."

Sogel Sanitary Gel coats have been developed from an ISO/NPG resin in combination with pigments and high quality additives. These high performance gel coats offer high resistance to osmosis, making them ideal for sanitary applications. Our line of Sanitary Gel coats are in compliance with the requirements of the American National Standard for plastic baths and showers as well as with the MACT standard of the EPA for the manufacture of composite materials.

Our vinyl ester laminating resin was formulated with an epoxy vinyl ester polymer This gives it very good physical properties and a high resistance to corrosion and penetration of water. This resin is recommended for the manufacture of FRP structures of small to large size with high production rates at room temperature. It is formulated to cure at room temperature with methyl ethyl ketone peroxide.

Sogel Sanding Gel coats were developed from a polyester resin to provide very good elongation to reduce cracks. In addition, it has a low volume shrinkage which gives a better surface finish. Their rheological properties give them optimal vaporization characteristics, to resist porosity and flow on vertical walls.

Sogel Aquaguard Gel coats are developed from a proprietary ISO/NPG resin with high quality pigments and special additives. These gel coats provide excellent resistance to chlorine, blush/blister resistance, weathering resistance, and gloss retention. They have very good flexibility and crack resistance at demold.

Sogel Inc General Purpose Laminating Resin

Our General Purpose Laminating Resin has been developed from a polyester resin providing very good mechanic properties. Given their low to medium viscosity, they offer very good wetting of fiber glass. In addition Sogel’s General Purpose Laminating Resins have very good crosslinking and short “Tack Free Time”.

The formulation of our high performance Marine ISO/NPG Gel coats are based on a special ISO/NPG polyester resin. These products were developed to provide good durability and superior flexibility, while keeping high quality finish and minimal maintenance. Additionally, their excellent Air Dry times make them suitable for repairs and repainting. The combination of neopentylglycol and isophtalic acid provides excellent resistance, not only to water blistering and osmosis, but also to the UV light.

Our Vinyl Ester Barrier Coat was developed from special thixotropic vinyl ester resins. This coating acts as a barrier coat between the laminate and the gelcoat. This formulation provides superior osmosis resistance along with enhanced thermal and cracking resistance properties. Sogel’s Vinyl Ester Barrier Coats allow accelerating the cure and the demoulding time, while strongly reducing the risk of print through, orange peel and blisters on gelcoat surface.

Sogel Platinum Gel coats have been developed from a proprietary hybrid resin with high quality pigments and special additives. These gel coats offer outstanding paint-like weathering resistance, optimum crack resistance at demold and have blister and chlorine resistance superior to that of ISO/NPG gel coats. Platinum Gel coats require the use of a two component spray gun application system for the simultaneous application of the co-promoter RM-0018 Sogel.
