By drastically pruning the tree during the first years of growth to force the tree to curve and restrict the number of branches, making it look like an umbrella, flower production was massively increased and their picking made much easier. Picking takes place from dawn to 9am, exclusively by hand, selecting flowers that are open and yellow. Traditionally the flowers then undergo fraction distillation, creating essential oil of different grades defined by density and therefore of varying qualities: extra, I, II and III. Ylangylang complete is the “whole” quality, so is not fractioned, thus ensuring that is retains all the various facets of the flower.
