Applications

POLYSTEP B-23E is a versatile surfactant:

  • Used in the manufacture of styrene butadiene, styrene acrylic, all acrylic and vinyl acetate homopolymer and copolymer latexes.
  • Aids in the incorporation of water-soluble monomers.
  • Often confers good hydrophobicity to the dried polymer film.
  • It is frequently used in conjunction with a non-ionic surfactant.
  • Latexes made with POLYSTEP B-23E have good electrolyte stability.

Storage & Handling

Storage & Handling

Normal safety precautions (i.e. gloves and safety goggles) should be employed when handling POLYSTEP B-23E. Contact with the eyes and prolonged contact with the skin should be avoided. It is recommended that POLYSTEP B-23E be stored in sealed containers and kept in a cool, dry place. Avoid overheating or freezing. If material has been frozen, mild heat and agitation are recommended to ensure material is homogeneous before use.

Bulk Storage Information

POLYSTEP B-23E should be stored in 316L stainless steel or fiberglass with a corrosion liner. Mild agitation is recommended while storing to maintain homogeneity. Material should be stored between 15-30 °C. An internal hairpin coil of 316L stainless steel with low pressure steam (under 50 psig) should be used if heating is required. Pumps, pipes and transfer lines should be 316L stainless steel.
