POLYSTEP B-40 is a mild branched chain alkyl ether sulfate. It can be used in a variety of latex systems. Stepan’s continuous sulfonation process produces highly consistent, high purity products which will afford excellent performance in emulsion polymer applications. This material shows potential as an alternate to APE containing surfactants.

Storage & Handling

Storage & Handling

Normal safety precautions (i.e., gloves and safety goggles) should be employed when handling Handling POLYSTEP B-40. Contact with the eyes and prolonged contact with the skin should be avoided. Wash thoroughly after handling material. It is recommended that POLYSTEP B-40 be stored in sealed containers and kept in a cool, dry place. Polyethylene drums are recommended for storage of POLYSTEP B-40. If material is frozen, mild heat and agitation are recommended to ensure the material is homogeneous before use.

Bulk Storage Information

POLYSTEP B-40 should be stored in 316 stainless steel or fiberglass with a corrosion liner. Mild agitation is recommended while storing to maintain homogeneity. Material should be stored between 90 - 125°F (32 - 52°C). Use mild heat if needed avoiding the use of steam since it may impact product integrity. Recirculated warm water is recommended. Pumps, pipes and transfer lines should be 316 stainless steel.
