STEPANTAN® AS-12 46 is an anionic surfactant that can be used in a variety of industrial applications. Stepantan as-12 46 is an aqueous solution of sodium alpha olefin sulfonate that can be used in firefighting foam applications and other foam forming products. Stepantan as-12 46 is an excellent foamer in fresh and intermediate brine (0–15% sodium chloride) as well as hard and soft water the product is kosher-certified.

Toxicity

Alpha olefin sulfonates are slightly toxic orally (LD₅₀ = 1.3-2.4 g/kg) in rats and are minimally or practically non-irritating at 1%.

Storage & Handling

Storage & Handling
  • Normal precautions (i.e., the use of gloves and safety goggles) should be employed when handling STEPANTAN AS-12 46. Contact with the eyes or prolonged contact with the skin should be avoided. Wash thoroughly after handling.
  • It is recommended that STEPANTAN AS-12 46 be stored in sealed containers at temperatures above 45 °F (7 °C). Avoid overheating or freezing. If material is frozen, mild heat and agitation are recommended to ensure the material is homogeneous before use.
  • Bulk Storage Information: Tanks made of 316 stainless steel or fiberglass with Atlac 382 corrosion liner are recommended. Positive displacement gear pumps and piping should be 316 stainless steel. Recommended storage for bulk tanks is 90-100 °F (32-38 °C).
