- Applications
ZELEC UN is an effective release agent in polyester resin molding operations that require external heat, such as matched metal die, compression and pultrusion. In applications and filler systems where the acidity of ZELEC UN may be an issue, the use of the low acid version, ZELEC MR-2, is recommended.
End Product Uses
- Internal release agents for molding of unsaturated polyester resins.
- Release agent for externally heat cured molding operations.
- Internal mold release agent for pultrusion molding of fiberglass reinforced polyester resins
- Usage Rates
For internal release in polyester resins, 0.5 parts ZELEC UN per 100 parts resin are recommended for initial trials. Lower or higher rates may be required depending on the resin characteristics. Typical ranges fall between 0.25 and 0.75 parts per 100. Conditioning of the mold may be required with certain resins where either higher usage rates or external application of a 5% solution of ZELEC UN may be required for several runs prior to starting the molding run.

Safety & Health
- Health Effects
ZELEC UN is slightly non-toxic orally (LD50, rat >5500 mg/kg) and may be corrosive to skin and eyes.
Packaging & Availability
Storage & Handling
- Storage & Handling
Normal safety precautions (i.e., gloves and safety goggles) should be employed when handling ZELEC UN. ZELEC UN is corrosive, contact with eyes and skin should be avoided. ZELEC UN should be stored in a cool, dry place in closed containers.
- Workplace Exposure
Occupational exposure can occur primarily through skin contact or via inhalation of vapors and mists. Engineering controls, personal protective equipment, and other workplace practices should be used to control these exposures.
