About Us

"In 1518, Jan of Pernštejn allowed Ondřej Šilhan to build a mill with two flour wheels and a third step, at the end of the dam of the large Prosenice pond, fed by water from the pond or from the ditch leading along the pond. In 1881, the Rolnický cukrovar akciový was built on the site of this mill, which had been in operation for over 360 years .Its construction in 1881 was of far-reaching significance for the village and especially for the peasantry in the wider vicinity of Prosenice. Until then, the peasants supplied sugar, which began to be grown in the vicinity of Prosenice in the late 1960s, to the German capitalist sugar factories in Přerov and Lipník. Both of these sugar factories, which had a sufficient beet base on their large estates, deliberately did not show much interest in the peas of the peasants, deprived the peasants of the supply advantages and bullied them in various ways, especially when receiving beets. This was the reason why in 1880 the peasant leaders from Lipno agreed to buy Šebek's steam mill in Malé Prosenice together and to establish a sugar factory from it. They set up an interim committee to subscribe for shares, draw up articles of association and manage preparatory work for the construction of the factory, and in 1880 they set up a joint-stock company, which built a sugar factory the following year. The first campaign , which was launched to delay construction on November 3, 1881 and lasted until February 5, 1882 due to frosts and difficult beet processing, ended in a large financial loss, which caused the sugar factory to struggle with financial difficulties for several years. However, the initial setbacks did not undermine shareholders' confidence in the prosperity of the new plant. As further campaigns were already successful, steps could be taken to improve the plant's technical equipment and increase its production capacity, thus achieving better sugar yields and reducing production costs. The successful development of the sugar factory has also resulted in the expansion of sugar beet seeding. The sugar factory bought another farm in Sobíšky to join his farm in 1906, but he sold it and in 1917 bought two yards in Tučín and Želatovice during the parceling of the former Přerov estate. In the strong competition of the two neighboring sugar factories, the plant worked very hard for its beginnings, but thanks to the tenacity and dedication of the committee members and thanks to good management, it overcame all difficulties. On the contrary, over time, both the Přerov and Lipno sugar factories disappeared."
