Technical Details & Test Data
- Film Properties and Processing
Synthalat W 48 is used as a sole binder to make water-thinnable single-coat and top coat
formulations. The coatings show early water resistance; white top coats have high whiteness
retention. Primers and top coats can be dried both by forced-air drying, e.g. 15 min./85°C, and
also at room temperature for 24 h, after which resistance to rain, mist and high atmospheric
humidity is good.
Rapid drying makes coatings based on Synthalat W 48 particularly suitable for spray
application; smaller surface areas such as those encountered in retouching work can also be
brush-painted. Dip coatings can also be made using appropriate formulations.
Synthalat W 48 coatings are suitable for finishing agricultural equipment, commercial vehicles
and construction machinery, and for industrial use in general.
When adjusting the pH of the coating it is essential to make up the neutralizing agent which has
volatilised during dispersion. We recommend adjusting the coating to pH 9.0 to 9.5 with
ammonia.
For Synthalat W48 we recommend following driers:
0,05%-0,15% Co, 0,1% Ca, 0,1-0,5% Zr
relative to metal content on solid resin).
