Application & Uses

Uses:

  • As a protective coating over smooth asphalt roofs, metal roofs and cured solvent-borne primers and coatings.
  • With reinforcing fabrics over medium to severely alligatored asphalt flood coats.
  • Dampproofing of masonry and concrete surfaces.

Applications:

  • Ready to apply.
  • Do not heat.
  • Do not thin.
Surface Preparation
  • All work surfaces must be clean, damp or dry, but free of standing water, free of dirt, dust, debris, oils, loose and/or embedded gravel, un-adhered coatings, deteriorated membranes, and other contaminants that may result in a surface that is not sound.
  • All necessary repairs must be completed before application to ensure optimum performance.
  • Extremely dusty or dry surfaces should be primed with Fortress® # 5302 Asphalt Primer or Fortress® #5085 HydroPrime™ 200.
Application Directions

Reinforced:

  • Apply to the properly prepared surface at a rate of 1 - 2 gallons per square.
  • Embed the first ply of Fortress® reinforcement (starter course), brushing the reinforcement into the adhesive.
  • Assure that the reinforcement conforms to the surface and no bridging or fish mouthing occurs.
  • Apply another coat of adhesive and embed the second course of reinforcement., overlapping the reinforcements in accordance with the appropriate spacing for the desired number of plies to be obtained.
  • After the final ply, apply the adhesive at a rate of 1 - 2 gallons per square before surfacing.

Non-reinforced:

  • Apply to the prepared surface at a rate of 2 - 4 gallons per square.
  • To avoid pinholes and ensure maximum performance, the application of two coats, each at 1/2 the total coverage rate and applied perpendicular to one another, are recommended.
Application Precautions
  • Do not use with or on 100% rubber or plastic substrates.
  • Do not use on or with products containing coal tar.
  • Do not apply to areas that pond water.
  • Do not apply if temperatures are expected to fall below 45ºF or rain or heavy dew is expected, within 24 hours of application.
