Dolomite 500# is a double carbonate of Magnesium and Calcium (CaCO3. MgCO3) Theoretically, it contains 21.7 MgO and 30.4 % CaCO3 and the remaining being CO2. It is sedimentary origin and is supposed to have been formed due to alteration of Calcium Carbonate sediments or rocks, by seawater rich in magnesia.

The grading of the material is primarily done on the basis of the whiteness. The important properties of China Clay are that it has good plasticity , does not swell in water, withstand high temperature (upto 1300°C and even above ) and is a non-conductor of electricity.
