Preparation
  • Inspect the entire surface for defects and deterioration. Repair and replace defects where necessary. Use Sansin Multi-Wash to clean and rinse well using a pressure washer.
  • Scuff sand existing SDF surface if necessary. Clean by washing (500 PSI), vacuum or compressed air for proper cleaning. Allow to dry.

Application Methods

  • Always flood surface to the point of saturation. (approximately 5-6 wet mil.)
  • Dipping.
  • Brushing.
  • Spraying; hand or automated spraying (low pressure or airless)

Working Procedure

  • Test formula on an inconspicuous wood surface to ensure proper color and penetration.
  • Apply in proper conditions, ideal temperature of 21ºC (70ºF) and relative humidity of approximately 50%.
  • For best results, apply a flood coat of Sansin SDF Topcoat, to a point of maximum absorption. Always back-brush the surface a few minutes after application.
  • Continually check the surface; wipe up all puddles and brush out any runs.
  • Do not apply in the heat of day or in direct sunlight as this will cause surface filming and limit penetration which may result in peeling at a later date.
  • Do not apply if rain or near-freezing temperatures are likely to occur within 24 hours after application.
  • When using a tinted product be sure to stir well before and during application.
  • Always read published directions for use prior to beginning a project.
Maintenance

Vertical surfaces require maintenance every 5 years. Maintenance is necessary when the surface shows signs of wear, such as fading or erosion. Maintaining your wood on a regular basis will ensure long-lasting color retention, exceptional dimensional stabilization and effective water repellency. Periodically, clean the wood surface with a power washer or Sansin Multi-Wash to remove dirt and residue. How frequently maintenance coats are required will depend on the quality of prior preparation, quality of application and weather exposure levels. If fading or erosion is evident, prepare wood by using a power washer to lightly clean the wood surface; or use Sansin Multi-Wash. Then re-apply one maintenance coat of SDF Top Coat according to instructions.
