Pepton® 22 is used in the high-temperature mastication of natural rubber, polyisoprene, SBR and nitrile rubbers where it is desired to increase the efficiency of breakdown. Its use is usually restricted to internal mixers because of its high activation temperature. Subject to certain restrictions Pepton® 22 is permitted under the American FDA Regulations for use in rubbers coming into contact with foodstuffs.
- Recommended Dosage
0.2 to 0.5 phr in natural rubber and synthetic polyisoprene. 1.5 to 3.0 phr in SBR and nitrile elastomers.

Pepton® 22 is effective at temperatures in excess of 120ºC and reduces mastication time and energy requirements, giving increased production capacity. The peptising action is inhibited by sulfur, so, compounded rubbers undergo no further viscosity change on storage. Mastication should be completed before the addition of other compounding ingredients. Pepton® 22 has little, if any, effect on the rate of cure of rubbers or on the properties and performance of vulcanisates.

Storage & Handling
- Storage Stability
Good, under cool dry conditions. However, PEPTON 22 should be used within 12 months of manufacture. Some compaction may occur in storage. This is normal and will not affect the inherent performance of the product.
