preBIULIN FOS is a short chain inulin-based prebiotic that helps in restoring microbiota balance. The inulin is extracted from chicory and can only be metabolized by organisms carrying the inulinase enzyme. Due to this, inulin acts as a prebiotic and only feeds a select group of benefi cial organisms which in turn provide food for others, thus supporting the microbiota.
The prebiotic nature of preBIULIN FOS and its ability to feed off and act as food for other organisms on the skin make it well suited for microbiome focused formulas. It protects unique bacteria on skin by optimizing the flora balance, allowing for improved barrier protection and enhanced moisturization.

Comparative tests were done where the skin microbiota was disrupted by ethanol with and without preBIULIN FOS. One hand was treated with 40% ethanol, the other with 40% ethanol and 1% preBIULIN FOS. At t=0, 5m and 4h, DNA swabs were taken, and the full microbiota composition was analyzed using DNA sequencing. The percentage of the microbiota that was ‘out of balance’ was calculated and compared to that at t=0. Out of balance is defined as species that have increased or decreased by at least 30%.- One hand: 40% ethanol
- Other hand: 40% ethanol + 1% preBIULIN FOS
Percentage of skin microbiota that is out of balance in function of time, compared to the initial situation at t=0.

Tests with an induced S. hominis inoculation on skin explants show that ethanol in the presence of 1% preBIULIN FOS is more effective to reduce S. hominis than ethanol alone. preBIULIN FOS is strengthening the remaining colonies on skin that are thereby enabled to fight off S. hominis by an additional 60%.
Concentration of S. Hominis on skin explants after induced S. Hominis infection a.) without treatment, b.) after 40% ethanol disinfection (placebo) and c.) after 40% ethanol with 1% preBIULIN FOS
