- Uses
Skimkote is a high-build cementitious coating for direct application over EPS, stucco, gypsum sheathing, CMU, AAC, rastra and approved ICF systems. Skimkote may also be used as a leveling coat over prepared painted stucco or masonry.
- Surface Preparation
Surface must be clean and free of bonding-inhibiting materials such as dirt, dust, rust, grease, oil, e_x001e_orescence, mildew, fungus, form-release agents or any other contaminants. Remove and repair any loose paint, mortar, stucco, concrete or masonry by water blasting, sand blasting, scraping or using a wire brush. Substrate should be sound and securely fastened.
- Coverage
Approximate coverage using 90 lbs is as follows:
- 45 sq. ft. at 1/4” thick
- 90 sq. ft. at 1/8” thick
(Coverage will vary depending on applicable technique, substrate suction and ambient conditions).
- Clean Up
Clean tools immediately after use. Remove all debris from the surrounding areas immediately following the application process.
- Mixing
To begin place 1 to 1.5 gallons of potable water into mechanical mixer. As the mixer is running add one 90 lbs. bag of Skimkote. Gradually add the remaining 0.5 to 1 gallons of potable water and blend until the desired consistency is achieved (about 4 to 5 minutes). Stop the mixing and allow the material to slake for 3 to 4 minutes. Then start the mixing again to break the initial set (usually 1 to 2 minutes).
- Application
Apply Skimkote with stainless steel trowel or approved spray equipment, no thicker than 1/4” in one application. When applying directly over CMU, AAC or rastra, use 2 coats of Ultrakote bonder to reduce the suction.
- Curing
Skimkote will initially set within 1-2 hours, and it requires a minimum of 24 hours moist curing, depending on air temperature and relative humidity.
- Limitations
Skimkote should be applied when surface and ambient conditions are between 40ºF and 110ºF during application and cure time. Weather conditions may afect drying time and workability. Skimkote is not a finish product.
