Vegalab Larva BioControl

Vegalab Larva BioControl is a biological control agent that uses live entomopathogenic nematodes to control insect larvae. Larva BioControl is lethal within 24-48 hours and is effective on 300+ types of larvae when applied to plants foliarly or to soil as a drench. Our proprietary in-vivo technologies and advanced packaging solutions allow for a shelf life of up to 2 months and extendable to 5 months, if kept under standard refrigeration.

    Active Ingredients

Larva BioControl’s active principle is an entomopathogenic nematode (Steinernema carpocapsae) that is extraordinarily lethal on many critical insect pests, yet safe for plants and animals.

    Applications & Uses

    Application Technique
    Pests Targeted

Larva BioControl was tested on a wide variety of insects with an observed efficacy greater than 80%. With 3-stage spraying, efficacy proved to be greater than 90%.

    Applications

To properly activate Larva BioControl, mix one (4 oz.) pack of product with twenty-five gallons (25 gal.) of water. It can also be used in higher dilution ratios, but always respecting the application rate of product per area. Mix continuously during application to avoid settling of the nematodes. Maintain solution or tank mix temperature below 86°F (30°C). Use 6 of the 4 oz. (113 g) packs per acre with 25-50 gallons of water to foliar spray or 250-500 gallons to irrigate the soil. After activation, spray the product onto plant leaf or drench the soil. Do not apply prior to excessive rains, since this may reduce product effectiveness.

    Mode of Action

The nematode juveniles used in the Larva BioControl product seek out insect hosts and initiate infections. The nematodes penetrate into the insect body cavity. Once in the body cavity, a symbiotic bacterium is released from the nematode gut, and causes rapid insect death. The nematodes feed upon the bacterial nutrition, thereby liquefying the host.

This product contains living organisms that require special handling and application procedures.

    • DO NOT SUBDIVIDE. Once opened, use the entire tray immediately.

    • Use cool water for mixing and keep tank out of direct sunlight.

    • DO NOT STORE MIXED SUSPENSIONS. Use nematode suspensions immediately after mixing.

    • Remove filters that are 50 mesh or finer from application equipment and nozzles.

    • Do not exceed 300 psi pump pressure.

    • Do not use in application systems where nozzle aperture is smaller than 0.5 mm.

    • Agitate nematodes constantly during application.
