Applications & Uses

Application Method
Compatible Substrates & Surfaces
Uses
  • When mixed with acetone, SC-36 can be used as a primary coloring application for polished concrete as well as grind, stain and seal systems.
  • SC-36 may be used in conjunction with Acid stains as a secondary coloring system.
  • Fast Stain is designed for interior use only.
Inspection
  • Substrate must be clean, dry, and free of grease, paint, oil, dust, sealers, wax, curing agents, or any foreign material that will prevent proper adhesion.
  • Not intended for exterior applications.
Moisture
  • All concrete should be tested for moisture before applying a seamless coating.
  • If moisture emissions exceed 5 lbs/1000 square feet/24 hours (ASTM F1869) or if the relative humidity (RH) exceeds 75% (ASTM F2170), contact the manufacturer before application.
Preparation
  • For concrete, the surface should be at least 2500 psi and have cured for a minimum of 28 days.
  • Prior to starting work, test existing concrete slab for efflorescence, moisture and hydrostatic pressure.
  • Methods of preparation may vary according to the desired outcome.
  • Factors include the forecasted use of the surface, the environment in which it is to be installed and if a sealer will be used. When preparing the surface, take in to consideration the desired final look and prep accordingly.
Mixing
  • For ease of mixing, begin by adding a small amount of acetone into the SC-36 Fast Stain powder container.
  • Pour approximately 6 ounces of acetone into the half-pint container of pre-measured Fast Stain powder (1 gallon mix) or 12 ounces of acetone into the pint container of pre-measured Fast Stain powder (5 gallon mix).
  • Replace the lid and shake to dissolve the powder.
  • Once powder has dissolved, place a funnel in the opening of the 1 or 5 gallon acetone and pour contents of first mix into remaining acetone.
  • Shake entire mixture and let sit for 15 minutes, shake again and the Fast Stain is now ready to apply.
  • Colors may be varied by adding more or less acetone.
Thinning

Do not thin.

Coverage
  • The coverage will vary depending on the surface.
  • Up to 400 square feet per gallon on a smooth surface and between 150-250 square feet on rough surfaces.
Applying Product
  • Applying Product Before beginning any project, it is recommended that a mock-up be installed to help indicate the overall look and finish.
  • Material may be applied with a solvent safe sprayer.
  • For best results, use a solvent safe, pump sprayer with a conical tip.
  • Be sure to apply evenly and consistently with an overlapping circular or figure eight pattern.
  • Avoid puddling the stain.
  • Additional coats may be applied after the first coat has dried for 10 to 20 minutes.
  • Additional coats will produce a darker color.
  • Multiple colors may be layered or sprayed at the same time to create a variegated finish.
  • Be sure to paper/plastic off any areas that you do not want dyed.
  • SC-36 may leave residual dye on the surface after application.
  • If this occurs, it is recommended to remove excessive dye.
  • A white pad may be used “dry” on a floor machine to remove residue, then a dust mop or vacuum can be utilized to collect the residual dye.
  • Be sure to extinguish all pilot lights and sources of ignition.
  • Ventilate the area prior to starting the job. Acetone fumes are extremely flammable.
