WINSOL Laboratories Versitol

WINSOL Laboratories Versitol removes smoke residue from all washable fabrics and surfaces including Kevlar®, Nomex®, duck, nylon, PBI, Hypalon®, Nitrile rubber and fiberglass. Today’s modern turnout gear is the principle barrier between the firefighter and extreme danger! Toxic residues and dangerously combustible hydrocarbon deposits become embedded in the fabric of the turnout and pose a constant threat to the firefighter as long as they remain.

Heavy hydrocarbon deposits can absorb as much as 30% more radiant heat as clean, light colored turnouts. Versitol was constructed with consideration to the manufacturers of the specialized fibers used in turnouts. It was designed using safe, effective chelates, sequestriants and surfactants which, when used in a routine maintenance program, will reduce or eliminate much of the visible hydrocarbons and the toxins contained therein. Versitol can restore most of the garment’s original properties designed to protect the professional firefighter. Versitol is a highly effective yet gentle multi-purpose cleaner that is safe for all automatic washing machines.

Usage Instructions

Decontamination of turnout gear: Add 1/4-1/2 cup of Versitol to washer/extractor*. Do not overload machine to ensure efficient cleaning and rinsing.  Wash in cool water, not exceeding 105 degrees, with a  double rinse.  Hang garments on large plastic hangers to air dry. (* NFPA 1851 specifies use of front loading washer/extractor, which generally have a capacity of 30 lbs or more, for cleaning and decontamination of firefighter protective clothing. NFPA 1851 stipulates that the washer/extractor not apply a G-force of greater than 100G.  Other machine requirements apply, such as water temperature control, water level and types/lengths of cycle. High-efficiency washers use relatively little water that are incapable of adequately cleaning heavily soiled gear. Furthermore, use of top-loading machines with a central agitator are prohibited as these machines are known to damage turnout clothing and are also inefficient in their cleaning capabilities).

Decontamination of equipment: Mix 2 to 4 ounces of Versitol in a bucket of water.  Spray or pour solution over each piece of equipment or tool to be cleaned and brush carefully with a soft brush.  Rinse carefully and dry.

Trucks, vehicles and floors:  Mix 1 to 2 ounces of Versitol in a bucket of water.  Wash as usual brushes, sponges or towels.  Rinse thoroughly. Versitol will not harm finishes or waxes when used properly.
