ZeoFiber is a pure white cellulose fiber produced from wood fiber. ZeoFiber is a renewable resource that is a 100% biodegradable “GREEN” filtration media. ZeoFiber is a perfect replacement for diatomaceous earth (D.E.). For pool owners with sand and cartridge filters, the addition of ZeoFiber will give your pool water a more polished look and will remove oils not ordinarily filtered out by other filter media.

Features & Benefits

Features
  • ZeoFiber is Safe and Natural: ZeoFiber is a blend of natural cellulose fibers that replaces diatomateous earth in pool and spa filters. In D.E. filters, ZeoFiber replaces the D.E. and safely cleans pool water. In cartridge and sand filters, ZeoFiber works as a filter aid and improves water clarity.
  • Finer Filtration with ZeoFiber: In the filter, the cellulose fibers in ZeoFiber nest together to form a highly uniform filter coating that traps the smallest of particles. The resulting filtration is higher than that of D.E. giving you cleaner, clearer water.
  • Longer Filter Cycles: Since ZeoFiber is fluffy (low bulk density) one pound of ZeoFiber replaces eight pounds of D.E. After your initial charge of ZeoFiber you may see a shorter cycle (backwashing/recharging) due to the removal of smaller particles to achieve the higher filtration rate. Once your water is stabilized you will see the time between your cycles increase at least two times when compared to D.E. cycles.
  • Use Less ZeoFiber than D.E.: D.E. requires up to eight times more product (by weight) to achieve a filtration rate comparable to ZeoFiber. The filtering layer formed by the long fibers of ZeoFiber is quite dense and forms quickly into a thin layer. D.E. on the other hand, has irregularly sized particles that must form into a thick layer to provide an adequate filtration screen.
  • Biodegradable, Environmentally Safe: ZeoFiber is environmentally friendly, non-toxic and biodegradable. Since the ZeoFiber cellulose fibers are derived from trees, ZeoFiber is a renewable resource. ZeoFiber dos not contain silica and is safe in the environment.
  • Economical: With the extended time between cycles you will have fewer backwashes, using less water chemicals, filter media and spend less time maintaining your pool or spa.

Applications & Uses

Use ZeoFiber for Filtration In:

  • Sand and Cartridge Filters as a Filter Aid
D.E. Replacement / Filter Media & Filter Aid

De or Pre-coat Filters: Conversion To Zeofiber:

Step 1: Thoroughly clean filter before converting from DE to ZeoFiber.

Step 2. Use your filter area and the table below to calculate the amount of ZeoFiber needed for your filter.

Filter Size Effective Filtration Area (Square feet) Cups of ZeoFiber (Included 8 fluid ounce measuring cup)
24 6
36 9
48 12
60 15
72 18

(A normal DE scoop holds about 5 times more than the measuring cup included in the package.)

Step 3. Slowly add ZeoFiber to skimmer with the pump running.

Note: ZeoFiber removes more dirt that DE, during the first few filter cycles after converting to ZeoFiber. These cycles may be shorter than future filter cycles.

Routine backwashing:

Step 1. When the filter pressure increases about 10 pounds above the starting pressure, backwash until water runs clear.

Step 2. Place the filter in rinse mode for 15 seconds. Use filter mode for 15 seconds, if rinse mode is not available on your filter.

Step 3. Repeat Step 1 and 2 two more times.

Step 4. In the filter mode and with the pump running, recharge your filter. Phosphate removers and sequestering agents may cause pressure to build up more quickly and shorten the filter cycle time. When clarifiers and coagulants are used, the filter should be backwashed within a few hours after these materials are filtered.

NSF/ANSI Standard 50 certification testing showed that 3 pounds of ZeoFiber is equivalent to more than 25 pounds of DE. Less ZeoFiber was needed to charge the filter than DE, and the smaller ZeoFiber filter charge lasted longer.

Cartridge Filters:

For longer cartridge life and finer filtration, add ZeoFiber as a filter aid to your cartridge filter. Dirty cartridges are easier to clean when ZeoFiber is used.

Step 1. Clean your cartridge filter.

Step 2. Use Chart below for application rates.

Cartridge Size Area (Square feet) Cups of ZeoFiber (Included 8 fluid ounce measuring cup)
25 2
50 4
100 8
250 20

Step 3. With pump running slowly add ZeoFiber to skimmer. Filter pressure should show a 1 pound increase.

Step 4. When filter pressure increases 10 pounds, clean filter per manufacturer’s instructions.

Sand Filter:

Filters finer particles for improved water clarity.

Step 1. Backwash until the water is clear and return filter to filter mode.

Step 2. Slowly add ZeoFiber to the skimmer or the pump return while the pump is running until the filter pressure increases one pound. Use your filter diameter and the table below to calculate the maximum amount of ZeoFiber needed for your filter.

Sand Filter Diameter (Inches) Cups of ZeoFiber (Included 8 fluid ounce measuring cup)
12 1
18 2
24 4
30 6
36 9
42 13
48 16

Step 3. Backwash after 24 hours or sooner if the pressure increases about 10 pounds.

Step 4. Repeat Steps 1 through 3, until the water is completely clear water.
