ZOLTEK produces uni-directional (UD) prepreg tapes based on ZOLTEK carbon fiber. ZOLTEK prepreg is ideal for large-volume composite applications where high production throughput, excellent composite properties, and low material cost are important. A wide selection of epoxy resin formulations meet most processing and composite property requirements for tack, toughness, surface finish, cure time, cure temperature, and delivered composite strength and modulus. Custom formulations are also available. ZOLTEK prepreg properties, such as fiber areal weight (FAW), resin content, and width, are readily adjusted to exactly meet customer requirements. Packaging options include core size, customer specified knitting requirements, and custom labeling. ZOLTEK prepreg production is geared to large volumes and low cost. Special projects are welcomed.

ZOLTEK PX35 Stitch-Bonded Uni-Directional Carbon Fabrics are produced from our ZOLTEK PX35 50K Continuous Tow Carbon Fiber. Unique fiber spreading techniques are utilized to obtain a wide range of UD fabric weights for a varied set of composite part applications. Quick composite part build-up is cost effectively achieved with our diverse weight range of low-cost carbon fabric products.

ZOLTEK PX30 Woven Carbon Fabrics tailorability results from controlling the yield on rovings and yarns, and allows for a variety of finished composite thicknesses. The spun yarns have many surface fibrils that protrude in various directions at various lengths from the surface. This fiber loft contributes to high cross-ply tensile and interlaminar shear strengths for 2-D composite materials. Contour conformation without wrinkling is another advantage of spun yarn fabrics. ZOLTEK PX30 materials undergo high temperature carbonization process, involving a long temperature soak time, resulting in a very thermally stable and chemically pure fabric with low oxidation rate.

ZOLTEK’s PX35 Milled Fibers are specifically processed PAN (polyacrylonitrile) based fibers for lower cost applications. ZOLTEK PX30 High Purity Milled Fibers are 99+% pure carbon fibers derived from ZOLTEK’s high temperature batch graphitization process. All ZOLTEK milled products are free of any sizings. ZOLTEK’s in-house milling system ensures product quality and traceability from raw material through finished product.

Zoltek has developed a new product and sizing chemistry for use in vinyl ester resin systems. Introducing Zoltek’s PX35 Vinyl Ester Compatible Tow product. This new product, based on our proprietary sizing chemistry, exhibits excellent adhesion to and compatibility with vinyl ester resin systems. Most carbon fiber products are used to reinforce epoxy resin systems. Recently, the demand has grown for a product and sizing chemistry that can be used in vinyl ester resins whether cured thermally or via room temperature infusion. When compared to Zoltek’s standard carbon fiber product, PX35 Epoxy Compatible Tow, the new vinyl ester compatible product has significantly higher interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) and transverse flexural strength TFS, which both measure and indicate fiber to resin matrix compatibility and adhesion, as well as, composite performance. Zoltek’s PX35 Vinyl Ester Compatible Continuous Carbon Fiber is manufactured from a polyacrylonitrile (PAN) precursor fiber. The consistency in yield and mechanical properties that are provided by large filament count strands gives the user flexibility to design and manufacture composite materials.

ZOLTEK PX35 Tow Weave Carbon Fabrics are produced from our ZOLTEK PX35 50K Continuous Tow Carbon Fiber. Quick composite part build-up is cost effectively achieved with our cosmetically attractive carbon fiber fabrics. Applications include large composite tooling parts and esthetically appealing finished composite components.

ZOLTEK OX yarns are spun yarns manufactured from ZOLTEK OX tow. ZOLTEK OX yarns are inherently fire resistant, thermally stable, electrically non-conductive and exhibit excellent resistance to chemicals and solvents. ZOLTEK OX yarns can be knit or woven and are used in high performance FR apparel, woven welding blankets, industrial fire-blocking layers, mechanical seals and gaskets, high temperature belting and can also be carbonized for use in carbon fiber composite end uses.

ZOLTEK PX30 High-Performance Carbon Yarns are derived from ZOLTEK’s high temperature batch carbonization process; the same process used to manufacture all of ZOLTEK’s high purity ZOLTEK PX30 products. In addition to their high carbon content, the many surface fibrils protruding in various directions from the stretch broken and subsequently carbonized spun ZOLTEK PX30 High-Performance Yarns make them ideally suited for high performance applications including carbon/carbon and other refractory composites. ZOLTEK PX30 High-performance Carbon Yarns have a density of 1.75 g/cc and a minimum carbon content of 99%.

ZOLTEK’s Type-65 chopped fiber format has high bulk density values which allow for cleaner and more consistent flow rates and maintains its integrity from the package, into, and through the hopper and distributes easily during compounding, improving process and product performance and has excellent mechanical and electrical properties.

ZOLTEK’s PX35 Flake Type chopped fibers provide ready impregnation of thermoset resins, with the capability to mold complex shapes. The resultant carbon fiber/ resin matrix composites offer high strength-to-weight and stiffness-to-weight ratios. Zoltek PX35 Flake Type chopped fibers may also be used as a low-cost alternative in thermoplastic applications, whereby a small portion of the matrix-specific product can be replaced with chopped flake carbon fibers with negligible impact to composite properties.

ZOLTEK’s Type-48 chopped fibers provide excellent mechanical and electrical properties for reinforcement in thermoplastic molding compounds requiring high strength and modulus, low density, electrical conductivity, dimensional stability, low thermal expansion and excellent friction/wear properties.
