Zoltek has developed a new product and sizing chemistry for use in vinyl ester resin systems. Introducing Zoltek’s PX35 Vinyl Ester Compatible Tow product. This new product, based on our proprietary sizing chemistry, exhibits excellent adhesion to and compatibility with vinyl ester resin systems. Most carbon fiber products are used to reinforce epoxy resin systems. Recently, the demand has grown for a product and sizing chemistry that can be used in vinyl ester resins whether cured thermally or via room temperature infusion. When compared to Zoltek’s standard carbon fiber product, PX35 Epoxy Compatible Tow, the new vinyl ester compatible product has significantly higher interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) and transverse flexural strength TFS, which both measure and indicate fiber to resin matrix compatibility and adhesion, as well as, composite performance. Zoltek’s PX35 Vinyl Ester Compatible Continuous Carbon Fiber is manufactured from a polyacrylonitrile (PAN) precursor fiber. The consistency in yield and mechanical properties that are provided by large filament count strands gives the user flexibility to design and manufacture composite materials.

ZOLTEK OX yarns are spun yarns manufactured from ZOLTEK OX tow. ZOLTEK OX yarns are inherently fire resistant, thermally stable, electrically non-conductive and exhibit excellent resistance to chemicals and solvents. ZOLTEK OX yarns can be knit or woven and are used in high performance FR apparel, woven welding blankets, industrial fire-blocking layers, mechanical seals and gaskets, high temperature belting and can also be carbonized for use in carbon fiber composite end uses.

Like the continuous ZOLTEK OX tow from which it is made, ZOLTEK OX flock consists of oxidized and stabilized PAN fibers (OPAN) that are inherently fire resistant, thermally stable and resistant to chemicals and solvents. ZOLTEK OX flock is non-conductive and has a ~62% carbon content. ZOLTEK OX flock is designed for use in decorative thermoplastic and rubber compounding, friction materials and other end uses.

ZOLTEK OX leno scrims are produced from 100% ZOLTEK OX yarns and offer support in applications requiring additional strength and high temperature performance. Also used as the raw material for carbon scrim serving the composite industry.

ZOLTEK PX35 continuous carbon fiber is manufactured from polyacrylonitrile (PAN) precursor. The consistency in yield and mechanical properties that are provided by large filament count strands gives the user the ability to design and manufacture composite materials with greater confidence and allows for efficient and fast buildup of carbon fiber reinforced composite structures. ZOLTEK PXFT carbonized felts are produced from 100% ZOLTEK OX felts, being continuously carbonized and supplied in roll form. ZOLTEK PXFT carbonized felts can be used in many applications, including: stationary energy storage batteries, fire protective insulation, high temperature furnace linings, acid gas mist eliminators and in carbon composite materials. Customers can apply their own post treatments and the carbonized felt is easy to cut and process for specific enduse applications.
