Food processing lubricants are nonfood compounds that can be used in applications where incidental food contact is possible. Acceptable lubricants approved for incidental food contact applications are listed in the H1 category by NSF International, following FDA guideline 21.CFR 178.3570. Industrial and automotive gear applications demand base stocks that can withstand the stress and shear of high loads. Oven and freezer conveyor chains must function at temperature extremes with no smoke or deposit formation.
