KURARAY POVAL™ 8-88 by Kuraray is a polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) having varying degree of polymerization and hydrolysis. It is a water-soluble polymer manufactured by alcoholysis of polyvinyl acetate. It is notable for its good bonding strength and pigment binding capacity because PVAs have such good cohesion and good adhesion to fibers, fillers as well as pigments. KURARAY POVAL™ 8-88 is used in a similar manner as natural products such as casein as well as starch and its degraded derivatives (for example dextrin) as raw material for the production of aqueous adhesive solution. In comparison to dextrin and casein it has the advantage of a more uniform chemical structure and greater adhesion, being obtained with minimum raw material requirements. It features water-solubility, excellent film forming characteristics, high tensile strength and elasticity, as well as resistance against organic solvents and dispersing power. For the modification of aqueous adhesives its aqueous solution can be added to polymer emulsions already stabilized with polyvinyl alcohol which affects the extension of the open time, increase of the setting speed and influence on the rheology. It is biodegradable and recyclable. KURARAY POVAL™ 8-88 is used in producing silicon base paper that are further used as release paper for PSA labels and also in remoistenable adhesives which are employed mainly in the paper processing industry, films applications.

Gabriel Phenoxy PK™HW-35 is a waterborne anionically-stabilized colloidal dispersion of phenoxy resin PKHH designed for thermoset coatings and adhesives. The dispersion is a non-Newtonian fluid at room temperature and exhibits very slight thixotropic behavior. Phenoxy resins (polyhydroxyethers) are tough, ductile, amorphous, thermoplastic polymers having excellent thermal stability, adhesive strength, and vapor barrier properties. Phenoxy resins may be crosslinked by reacting its hydroxyl functional groups with isocyanates, melamine resins, or phenolic resins. Crosslinked phenoxy resins exhibit excellent chemical resistance, hardness, and adhesion on many substrates including steel, aluminum, glass, carbon fibers, and plastics such as nylon and polyester (PET). The recommended level of crosslinking range from 5 to 20 phr based on resin solids. PKHW-35 is compatible with most waterborne polyurethanes and acrylics at pH’s greater than 6.5. PKHW-35 is incompatible with acidic materials; low pH media can cause loss of dispersibility and precipitation of the base resin. The addition of PKWH-35 to ambient cure 2k waterborne formulations can improve ultimate film hardness, shorten dry-to-touch times, and improve gloss. Physical properties can be further enhanced with the use of ambient-cure crosslinkers such as aliphatic isocyanates, carbodiimides, polyaziridines, and epoxy silanes. Crosslinkers such as alkylated phenolics and melamine’s are readily dispersed in PKHW-35 to provide shelf-stable, single pack, thermoset formulations. All properly formulated coatings of PKHW-35 display excellent flexibility and surface hardness. PKHW-35 typically contains less than 12% by weight volatile organic compounds (VOC’s) including non-HAP ethylene glycol butyl ether (butyl cellosolve, Glycol Ether EB) and dimethylethanolamine.
