"Agriculture is the base of the business. Long term focus is part of all our business decisions. In 1983, the second generation integrated the business. Ronald and Luc Verdonck joined with their father Jean to form Agrocentre Belcan (1983)Inc. At that time the new focus was to expand the crop input distribution, the farm and the seed sector for our commercial activities and integrated continue to integrate our activities while remaining in the agricultural business. In the late 80’s the company started new businesses in joint ventures to continue the vertical integration and each of the business units offers direct and indirect services while being either a customer or supplier to the group. During the 90’s, due to our integration and beliefs, the group developed new applications to reintroduce and recycle industrial waste from the Cement industry as a source of fertilizer to agriculture. Potassium and other alkali materials naturally accumulated in the raw stone, which is being released by the thermal treatments in the cement kilns was successfully introduced to the market as a substitute for chemical fertilizer and lime. Today these products are now being recycled instead of being dumped in landfills. Continuous expansion driven by the desire to offer better solutions to our customers resulted in strategic partnering in various sectors. These vary from equipment rentals, supply and distribution of crop inputs and feed, food processing. Over the last 20 years, we were involved in soybeans export as seed or food grade. However, in the last five years the company concentrated its investment efforts and concluded strategic alliances with exporters, to supply product mainly to the Asian markets. In 2010, Belcan decided to continue the development of its exports by focusing to the US and western European markets with added value products like dehulled, I.P. and organic soybeans and organic soybean meal and oil. With the addition of qualified personnel, the business has successfully concluded sales of these products in these markets. ST Lawrence Beans was started, as a division of Agrocentre Belcan. ST Lawrence Beans works with the companies IP Soybeans, “Food grade” products and Organic products. Our group is proud of its evolution and growth. Our organization distinguishes itself from our competition by its strategic integration in the various levels of the agrifood industry."
