Due to its strong foaming properties, it significantly reduces surface tension and also acts as a wetting and plasticizing agent. Used as an additive in various mortar mixtures, ready-mix plasters and filling compounds, it forms a fine, stable system of air voids. Berolan LP-W1HD is suitable for applications based on plaster, lime, or cement. Its other advantageous characteristics include that it increases frost resistance and reduces susceptibility to shrinkage, cracking, and efflorescence. The dosage of LP-W1HD depends on the desired result and can vary between 0.005 – 0.1%, based on the dry mix. Since the introduction of air is also influenced by the machine equipment, the latter needs to be taken into account as well.

Berolan LP-W2 effects the formation of particularly fine, stable air bubbles, thereby considerably improving the General performance of resistance, water retention as well frost stability. Tendency towards contraction and crack formation is also reduced as is wear and tear to mixing apparatus and conveyors. Due to its surface active character Berolan LP-W2 additionally promotes wetting of binders and other ingredients, thus entailing a swifter wetting and dispersion and reducing the tendency towards aggregation during mixing. The necessary quantity depends on the desired effect but generally is between 0.005 – 0.1 %, calculated on the dry mix. In the majority of cases 0.01 % proves sufficient to obtain adequate aeration. The equipment available must also be taken into account, where batch operated mixers generally feed more air into the mortar. Through the purposeful air entrainment the yield is significantly improved. A very quick wetting ensures less entry of coarse air pores and reduced nodule formation (dry spots/knots).
