Powder processing technology that adds advanced functions to inorganic compounds; organic synthesis technology which we have acquired in the course of expanding our business from inorganic to organic substances; and pharmaceutical manufacturing technology that responds to a variety of needs in the medical and health sectors. Sakai Chemical Group celebrated the 100th anniversary in 2018. Throughout our long history, we have developed a range of businesses through deepening and expanding these core technologies while overcoming numerous difficult challenges, and have remained an integral part of Japan’s cutting-edge manufacturing. The speed of changes seen in the environment surrounding our society and economy has been accelerating even further in recent years, and their impact on corporate activities is becoming greater than ever before. However, I believe that one thing remains unchanged: opportunities are created by consistently staying ahead of these changes and continuing to work hard. Over the past few years, we have been making group-wide efforts to improve the revenue of our existing businesses, expand into new business areas, and strengthen overseas operations. These activities are beginning to bear fruit in a steady fashion. With commitment and passion to meet all your expectations, we will continue to bring together the wisdom, skills and energy of all our board directors and employees, and help evolve the genes of the people of Sakai and technologies that have been preserved in history so that we may continue to regenerate ourselves toward the next 100 years and the new era that awaits us beyond it.

"Biochar Now is a pioneer in the biochar industry with strong engineering, manufacturing, sales and administrative personnel focused on making and selling quality biochar on a very large scale. The history of biochar dates back thousands of years to a civilization in the Amazon Basin where extensive regions of dark, highly fertile soil known as terra preta – Portuguese for “black earth” – have been discovered and analyzed, revealing high concentrations of charcoal and organic matter, such as plant and animal remains. Found only within inhabited areas, the presence of terra preta indicates that humans were deliberately responsible for its creation. Soil scientists theorize the ancient Amazonians used a “slash-and-char” process to develop this rich soil. With slash-and-char, plant material or crop remains were cut, ignited, and buried to smolder (rather than burn), which eventually produced char, now commonly referred to as “biochar”. This process isolated most of the carbon in the vegetation, creating a particularly hospitable amendment, which in turn nurtured beneficial micro-organisms that transformed the degraded soil to extremely rich and stable humus. For centuries the slash-and-char technique produced the fertile soil – often referred to as the “Secret of El Dorado” – that supported the agricultural needs of the Amazonians, which in turn, enabled their numbers to grow by the millions. From this ancient method Biochar Now has developed the technology for producing biochar as a means to improve today’s soil quality and store carbon. Biochar Now biochar filtration process is used to purify producer water from wells. Our biochar removes pollutants allowing for the discharge of clean water."

"Since its foundation by Mr. Vic Swerts, Soudal has been one of the most important European manufacturers of silicone sealants. In 1966 Mr Swerts bought a small company based at the Ossenmarkt in Antwerp and specialized in welding materials and the production of polyester putties for the car body repair. After two years the company moved to Turnhout, at the former market of Mr Swerts' parents. Mr Swerts invested heavily in a sophisticated vacuum mixer for the production of polyester putties and high quality silicone sealants. The first year in Turnhout, production output of silicone sealants was 5,000 cartridges. Since then the company has grown from a small family business to the multinational corporation it is today. After some years the location became unsuitable for further expansion. At the Turnhout Industrial Estate a production hall of 2000m2was built in 1976. In 1981, the offices also moved to Turnhout and Soudal NV is founded. From then growth really started to accelerate. The central position of Belgium proved ideal for stepping up export activities. In 1981 the share of export in turnover amounted to 25%. This share increased to 90% in 2004. Soudal expanded to 11,000m2 in 1985. In 1992 Soudal made its first acquisition by buying French competitor Ayrton. This acquisition gave Soudal an important market share in France and a logistical platform to optimize its own distribution and service. Also in 1992, Soudal was one of the first companies in its field to obtain the ISO 9002 approval. Its devotion to quality formed the basis for getting this approval. In spite of the fact that fire safety and protection have always been key issues to Soudal, a fierce blaze broke out in the finished products and polyurethane foam departments in 1993. Less than a year later Soudal was completely up and running again, thanks to tremendous efforts of all staff. The PU foam department was moved to a completely new factory, which started production in 1994. This new plant was designed for state of the art manufacture of PU foam in spray cans."

"In 1972, AKZO developed its first para-aramid. In 1982 it was decided to start with its commercial production. In the meantime, the new fiber had been renamed Twaron, and forecasts for the product were better than ever before. In 1986, the new plants in Delfzijl and Emmen began production. The first spool, which was made using raw materials from Delfzijl, came off the spinning machine in May 1986. Twaron entered the market one year later. In 2000, Teijin Ltd. took over all Twaron activities. This marked the start of a series of successful and ambitious investments and expansions. Teijin Aramid now markets four different brands of aramid worldwide. Twaron is by far our strongest brand. Since April 2017, all aramid activities within Teijin Ltd. have been merged under one joint aramid business unit, called Teijin Aramid. This was a special and historic step within Teijin, and a compliment to the entire aramid organization. With the addition of our Teijinconex neo plant in Thailand, and our Teijinconex and Technora plants and two R&D centers in Japan, we are now more than ever a strong and international organization. Teijin Limited, our Japanese parent company and the holding company of Teijin Group, is a technology-driven global group offering advanced solutions in the areas of sustainable transportation, information and electronics, safety and protection, environment and energy, and healthcare. Teijin Group has some 150 companies and around 16,000 employees spread out over 20 countries worldwide."
