Spirulina is a cyanobacterium, or blue-green algae, belonging to the arthrospira genus. The most common species are spirulina maxima and arthrospira platensis. Spirulina contains around 60% protein in dry form. It is a source of antioxidants, strengthens the immune system and improves the tone and vitality of the body.Like all microalgae, Spirulina must however be considered with caution to ensure its quality. Cultivation must be managed with rigour and attention to detail in order to avoid the development of elements which are harmful to humans, such as heavy metals.Spirulina is largely made up (80%) of hydrophilic elements: proteins, minerals, polysaccharides and water-soluble vitamins. Inside the cell, water is used to transport the majority of Spirulina metabolites and plays the role of natural support. Thus, water is fundamental to its survival and to the activities of most of its constituents. As a result, the drying of Spirulina eliminates most of this interior water, causing the death of the cell which can no longer ensure its vital functions. Drying therefore profoundly modifies the structure of Spirulina and its metabolites. This is one of the reasons for the liquid form of AlgoSource extracts.

Porphyridium cruentum is cultivated at temperatures between 20 and 25°C, both in open raceway tanks and in closed reactors lit by sunlight or artificial light. AlgoSource has chosen a closed culture system to cultivate this strain in order to reduce contamination and increase the growth and concentration performance of the microalgae. This results in a product rich in active compounds. Our cultures of Porphyridium cruentum are guaranteed GMO and chemical free.

Hyposode® Marine Magnesium is naturally rich in magnesium, concentrated seawater is, however, unusable as it is. Algosource has therefore developed an exclusive bio-process to filter and purify them.

Scenedesmus is a cosmopolitan unicellular micro-algae of the chlorophycae class and the scenedemacae family . It is non-mobile, measures approximately 5 to 30 micrometers in length and 8 to 10 micrometers in diameter. Scenedesmus thrives in moist areas of fresh or even brackish water.

Porphyridium is red micro-algae of marine origin belonging to the rhodophyta class. It does not have flagella and has a spherical or ovoid shape the size of 1-40 µm.Its cells, of varying colours of red depending on age and culture conditions, are coated in a mucilaginous sheath of polysaccharides. Unlike plants, red microalgae have no real cell wall; their mucilage cover protects them from harsh environmental conditions such as heat or strong light. This is also how they are protected from attack due to salts.In addition to ordinary pigments such as chlorophyll and carotenoids, Rhodophytes are distinguished from other microalgae by the presence of phycobiliproteins. The most abundant in Porphyridium are the phycoerythrins which give it this characteristic red colour. Thanks to these phycoerythrins, red microalgae can live at a depth of up to 250 m.
