Chartwell International Inc. was founded in January 1991 by Lawrence B. Cohen, a leader in the adhesion promoter industry, as a manufacturer of unique proprietary metal organic adhesion promoters marketed to the coating, abrasive, adhesive, ink, plastic and rubber industries.

In June 2014, the company was acquired by Protex International Inc. and all operations moved from its Attleboro Falls, MA plant to a Protex-owned facility in Dudley, MA. Production of the company’s Chartsil line of solid adhesion promoters for powder coatings remains in Savannah, GA.

Protex International, a French firm based in Paris, is a medium-sized, 100% private and financially independent company with a turnover of more than $220 million US. Established in 1932, its business is to develop, produce and market chemical and biochemical specialties for manufacturers in the chemical and other industries through a large number of subsidiaries.

Chartwell is unique compositions based upon proprietary stabilized non-toxic metal(s) and other proprietary organofunctional components supplied as solutions in water, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, and dipropylene glycol.

A mercapto functional organic adhesion promoter synthesized using a stabilized bimetal precursor. The product is supplied in ethylene glycol to aid in rapid dispersion and solubilization of the active component in polymer matrices.


Chartwell B-505.1

A methacrylato functional organic adhesion promoter synthesized using a STABILIZED BIMETAL PRECURSOR. The product is supplied in a solvent carrier consisting of propylene glycol to aid in rapid dispersion and solubilization of the active component in polymer matrices.

Chartwell C-545.1

A hydrocarbon functional metal organic adhesion promoter synthesized using a stabilized bimetal precursor. The product is supplied in dipropylene glycol for solubilization of the active component in polymer matrices.


Chartwell D-535.1

An increased reactivity hybrid carboxy/ hydroxyl functional metal organic adhesion promoter synthesized with a stabilized neutralized metal complex. The product is supplied as a solution in water.

Chartwell C-523.72HRW

An increased reactivity amino functional metal organic adhesion promoter synthesized with a stabilized neutralized metal complex. The product is supplied as a solution in propylene glycol.

Chartwell C-515.71HR

An increased reactivity amino functional metal organic adhesion promoter synthesized with a stabilized neutralized metal complex. The product is supplied as a solution in water.

Chartwell C-515.72HRW

A sulfido functional organic adhesion promoter synthesized using a stabilized bimetal precursor. The product is supplied as a solution in propylene glycol.


Chartwell C-600

A high concentration amino functional metal organic adhesion promoter absorbed upon a high surface area precipitated silica carrier. The product is a dry free flowing solid which physically breaks down upon compounding (Banbury, Henschel, etc.) to release the active amino functional adhesion promoter. The quantity of carrier solvent introduced to the powder coating, rubber, etc. Is reduced by 65% vs. Chartsil B-515.1.
