Applications & Uses

Compatible Substrates & Surfaces
Typical Uses

TERRAZZCO® Floor Aid FM 528 can be used in industrial, commercial, retail, institutional facilities and healthcare facilities. When combined with TERRAZZCO EZPour Epoxy 158, it yields a flexible yet durable epoxy terrazzo flooring finish that is less susceptible to cracking than traditional flooring systems.

Application

Surface Preparation: All work should be performed by trained and experienced contractors or maintenance personnel. Concrete surface and air temperature must be a minimum of 55°F during installation and cure. Concrete surface temperature must be 5°F above the dew point to ensure proper curing of the terrazzo floor. Consult installer for job specific slab conditions for TERRAZZCO® epoxy terrazzo flooring system installation. Concrete surface must be free of dirt, waxes, curing agents, and any other foreign materials. Surfaces should be prepared by grinding or shot blasting and any repairs to concrete must be made prior to applying this product. An active vapor barrier under the concrete slab is required. Concrete slabs receiving resinous terrazzo must be tested for relative humidity according to ASTM-F-2170 (Relative Humidity in Concrete Floor Slabs using in situ probes) before application. Measurements must be made using Wagner Electronics Rapid RH® 4.0 Smart Sensor and Rapid RH® Easy Reader. A record sheet should be filled out including the ambient temperature and humidity during testing along with the substrate temperature and relative humidity. The test must be conducted at end user environmental conditions. Any deviation from this procedure will result in the warranty being voided.

Materials Needed

  • Hand mixing drill with jiffy blade
  • Mineral spirits or isopropyl alcohol for cleaning equipment.

Mixing & Application

  • Premix FM 528 resin part A using a low speed drill and jiffy blade for two to three minutes.
  • Add two (2) parts FM 528 resin part A to one (1) part FM 528 hardener part B by volume. Mix using the drill and jiffy blade for two to three minutes. Materials are supplied packaged so that the entire contents of hardener part B is added to the container of resin part A and mixed in the container.
  • Pour the mixed material onto the working area and spread using a squeegee or trowel to achieve 40 mils dry film thickness yielding 105-135 sq. ft. per unit. Apply more material to areas showing greater penetration and soaking into the substrate.

Clean Up

Clean skin with soap and water. Tools and equipment should be cleaned with isopropyl alcohol or mineral spirits before epoxy hardens. Failure to do so will cause the epoxy to harden on the tools and equipment making it very difficult to remove. Consult SDS for safety and health precautions.

Considerations
  • Substrate temperature must be a minimum of 55o F before, during and 72 hours after installation. The surface temperature of the concrete must be 5° above the dew point to ensure proper curing.
  • Substrate must be free of dirt, waxes, curing agents and other foreign materials.
  • Concrete surface must not contain puddles of standing water during application.
  • Not to be used on concrete less than 28 days old.
  • May be used with fibercloth mesh on concrete surface with larger cracks.
  • Active vapor barrier must be present under concrete slab.
  • Materials should be allowed to acclimate to controlled application environmental conditions prior to being mixed.
  • Material is not designed to be used as a moisture vapor barrier.

Storage & Handling

Shelf Life

Epoxy resin does not have a shelf life and hardener has a 1-year shelf life in unopened containers.

Storage Conditions

It is suggested that materials are stored in a temperature and humidity controlled environment. If this is not possible materials should be allowed to acclimate to controlled environmental conditions of application. Keep resins and hardeners separated from each other until ready for use. Materials should be kept away from sources of ignitions. Materials should be stored in their original unopened container.
