The Awara comes from the palm tree Astrocaryum vulgare M., which is native to northwestern South America. It belongs to the family Arecaceae (palmaceae). It is a thorny palm tree 15 to 25 meters high, which bearsfruit globular yellow-orange. It is called Awara in Guyana and Tucuma in Brazil. He likes well-drained sandy or clay soils, especially along the coast of Guyana. This palm has a fructification from January to July. Its trunk covered with thorns deters pests from attacking the fruit, but their final stage of ripening is after they fall from the tree, directly to the ground.
