- The Karanja tree belongs to the Leguminaceae family and reaches normally 8 meters high, although some of them have reached up 8 meters high. Its flowers are mauve or white and bloom between April and September according to the areas. Around 10 to 11 months later, between February and May, the fruits are mature. They have an elliptic shape; they are 7.5 centimeters long and 3 centimeters wide. They contain one or two white seeds coated with a red skin.
- Pongamia Glabra is grown in different areas in the world. The main plantations are located in various regions of India. The seed counts for 95.5% in weight of the fruit, and contains approximately 30% of oil. Each tree can produce from 8 to 24 kilograms of fruits.
