AFCONA K172 is a wetting and dispersing additive designed to prevent flooding and sedimentation of pigments. It is a silicone-free version of AFCON K172 and can be used in the same applications. Additionally, AFCONA K172 can be post-added to resolve flooding and floating issues. When combined with a suitable high molecular weight dispersant, it can also act as a co-grinding agent.

Product Properties

AFCONA-K172 is a silicone-free version of AFCONA - K172, and it may be used in the same applications. It can also be post-added to solve flooding and floating problems. In combination with a suitable high molecular weight dispersant, AFCONA - K172 can be used as a co-grinding agent. AFCONA – K172 has the following special properties:

  • The performance and usage of AFCONA - K172 is almost identical to that of AFCONA – 5065. However AFCONA – K172 does not contain any polysiloxane. Therefore, it may be preferable in many foam sensitive systems such coil coatings, floor coatings and those coatings applied by curtain coater.
  • If some polysiloxane is needed in the grinding phase to improve wetting and increase grinding speed, AFCONA polysiloxanes such as AFCONA – 3236, AFCONA – 3238 and AFCONA – 3239 are recommended.
  • AFCONA - K172 is especially suitable for medium to high-polarity binder systems like: - alkyd/amino resin combinations - nitrocellulose systems - polyurethane systems - acrylic polyisocyanate systems (2 - pack acrylics) - chlorinated polymers
  • AFCONA - K172 is not compatible with white spirit or paints which are diluted with white spirit.
  • Note: AFCONA – K172 will become slightly hazy at temperatures below 5° C. This will not influence the performance of the product.
