AFCONA 3581E is a silicone-based leveling and anti-crater agent for aqueous coatings that does not influence intercoat adhesion. AFCONA 3581E is the 52% effective substance version of AFCONA 3580, an organically modified polysiloxane with very short chain repeatable units of siloxane. These small molecules allow it to move very quickly to an area of defects. This offers very good anti-crater properties without causing intercoat adhesion problems.

Chemical Family: Silicones

Functions: Defoamer, Leveling Agent

Features: Improved Substrate Wetting

AFCONA 3581E is the 52% effective substance version of AFCONA 3580, an organically modified polysiloxane with very short chain repeatable units of siloxane. These small molecules allow it to move very quickly to  an area of defects. This offers very good anti - crater properties without causing intercoat  adhesion problems.

AFCONA 3581E is widely used in electroplating and electrodeposition coatings to prevent crater formation. It also offers good leveling and a smooth appearance in the finished coating. It is not itself an ionic structure; it may be used in anionic and cationic systems.

The use of AFCONA-3581E gives the following advantages:

  • Excellent anti-crater behavior
  • Improved leveling
  • Better substrate wetting
  • No intercoat adhesion problems
  • Little or no foam stabilization

Note: Due to its small molecules, the slip performance of AFCONA 3581 is reduced.

AFCONA 3581E is recommended for use in all types of waterbased coatings with a pH range of 4 - 10.
