Product Properties
  • AFCONA-5071 helps reduce interfacial tension between hydrophilic pigments/extenders and the binders. It stabilizes the pigments through electrical charge repulsion forces. AFCONA – 5071 has the following special properties:
  • The main reason for using AFCONA - 5071 in the formulation is anti-settling and anti-sagging properties.
  • This product is mainly used for inorganic pigments and extenders in waterbased coatings. AFCONA-5071 is also suitable for solvent based coatings, where it may be selected due to its good anti-settling performance.
  • AFCONA-5071 also offers wetting and dispersing properties and will not reduce the gloss of the system.
  • AFCONA-5071 is suitable for use in low - to high-polarity solvent systems, as well as in waterbased coatings. It can be used to reduce flooding and settling in non-polar systems, e.g. air drying alkyd paints.
  • Combination of AFCONA-5071 and AFCONA-4560 at a ratio of 1:3 is very effective to disperse inorganic pigments and fillers. This dispersion leaves a very dilute viscosity, such as F#4 cup at 8 – 12 second, which remains for many hours without stirring. Soft settling will form but many systems will not experience separation (depending on the particles size of the filler; greater than 15μm may have separation) or hard settling.

Note: AFCONA – 5071 will become slightly hazy at temperatures below 5° C. This will not influence the performance of the product.
