ASCONIUM® 110 replaces or enhances the effectiveness of mineral anticorrosive pigments in aqueous and solventborne metal coatings. It is a hydrophobic agent that enhances the water resistance of dry films. For substrates made of galvanized steel, this product functions as an anti flash-rust additive. It is used as a corrosion inhibitor to protect metal packaging.

Applications & Uses

Compatible Polymers & Resins
Product Application

As a corrosion inhibitor or hydrophobic agent: can be used with any type of liquid metal coating for industrial, professional, or do-it-yourself purposes, especially with clear-coatings or primers that are based on:

  • Alkyds, solventborne
  • Polyester, solventborne

For in-can corrosion protection: can also be used in waterborne and solventborne systems like strippers, glues, degreasers,...

Dosage

Depending on the system, will be added during the dispersion step, or will be post-added. When it replaces anticorrosion pigments, the reduced PVC should be balanced with fillers used in the paint formulation. Indicative use dosages (% of total coating weight) :

  • 1.5 to 3% when used as sole anticorrosion agent.
  • 0.8 to 2% when used in synergy with other anticorrosion agents.
  • 0.2 to 1% as antiflash-rust additive for zinc.
  • 0.1 to 0.5% for in-can corrosion protection.
