Formulation Advice

This product is supplied as a low viscosity emulsion and can be incorporated directly into formulations with none of the concerns about dissolution, particulate clumping that can be encountered with dry products. Because thickening occurs instantaneously upon neutralization with a variety of bases, in-line mixing with static mixers is possible. Upon neutralization, the ACULYN™ 33A Rheology Modifier becomes a clear, highly viscous solution. The preferred order of addition when using ACULYN™ 33A Rheology Modifier in aqueous formulations is as follows:

  1. Add ACULYN™ 33A Rheology Modifier to the water
  2. Add other ingredients from the most acidic to the most alkaline
  3. Add the neutralizing agent

If this sequence is not desirable, it can be added directly to an alkaline formulation after first diluting the ACULYN™ 33A Rheology Modifier product with two parts of water.

Chemistry and Mode of Action

ACULYN™ 33A Rheology Modifier is an Alkali-Swellable Emulsion (ASE) that thickens via a non-associative mechanism called microgel swelling. Through this mechanism, ACULYN™ 33A Rheology Modifier does provide thickening, suspension and stabilization properties.

Storage & Handling

Storage Condition

Keep from freezing. This emulsion product as supplied will irreversibly coagulate upon freezing. Extended exposure to temperatures above 40°C may also coagulate the polymer emulsion and render it unsuitable for use.
