Perdure UPr (Perdure Universal Primer) is one component, moisture-cured polyurethane primer. Perdure UPr has excellent adhesion to sound, lightly adhered rusty steel, other marginal or poorly prepared metal surfaces and properly prepared concrete. Perdure UPr undergoes a rapid molecular weight change as it polymerizes into a high molecular weight primer with excellent corrosion, abrasion and high-temperature resistance.

Product Type: 1K (1 component) Coating, Primer

Compatible Substrates & Surfaces: Concrete, Metal, Painted Surfaces, Steel

Features: Abrasion Resistant, Corrosion Resistant, Excellent Substrate Adhesion, Excellent Wetting Behaviour, High Temperature Resistance, Pinhole-Free

Application Method: Roller

Chemical Family: Polyurethanes (PU)

Features & Benefits

Advantages
  • It can be used as a primer for all Macrylex (MMA) based systems.
  • Perdure UPr must be sued as a barrier primer applied in one or two coats as needed to achieve a pinhole-free finish when applying Macrylex over an existing epoxy basecoat.
  • Excellent primer for a variety of surfaces.
  • Barrier primer for applying Macrylex systems over epoxy.
  • Superior wetting out properties over sound, rusty steel.
  • Can be recoated in 1 to 2 hours and can be coated with most resinous coatings.
  • Corrosion-resistant: Passes 12,000 hrs. in salt cabinet.
  • Excellent high-temperature resistance.

Special Conditions
  • Do not apply over frost, wet/damp surfaces, or in very high humidity conditions.
  • The clear formulation will yellow over time if used as a finish coat.
  • Must be recoated within 24 hours.
  • Seal partially used containers to prevent material from reacting with moisture in the air.
Coverage
  • Use on concrete or as a barrier coat (2 coats recommended): 250ft²/gal/coat
  • Steel: 866ft² at 1 mil DFT
Surface Preparation

Concrete:

  • Shot blast or grind to a medium grit texture similar to 60 grit sandpaper or CSP-3.
  • Steel: Sandblast to an SSPC SP6 “commercial” blast finish.
  • When blasting is not appropriate, remove all loose rust and mill scale by power wire brushing or hand tool cleaning.
  • A tightly adherent rusty surface is acceptable.

Galvanized Steel:

  • New Brush blast per SSP - SP7.
  • Old, weathered or rusty: Remove all oil, grease, dirt, and other foreign matter.
  • The surface should be reasonably clean, dry, and free of contaminants.
  • Remove all loose rust, etc., as outlined under steel.
  • Previously Painted Surfaces: Remove all loose, peeling, or blistered paint and any other surface contaminants.
  • Make sure the surface is sound and dry.
Installation
  • Mix Perdure UPr so that the aluminum pigment is thoroughly dispersed in the resin and uniform silver color is achieved.
  • When using Perdure UPr over an extended period, stir occasionally to maintain uniform mixing of the material.
  • It is applied with a 3/8” nap roller.
  • Roller covers should have a phenolic core.
  • Perdure UPr may be applied at temperatures between 25°F and 140°F.
  • It cures to a tack-free in 1 - 2 hours and can be recoated in 2 to 24 hours at 75°F with 50% RH.
