- Film Thickness
- Epoxytec A1 Primecoat™ can be a single coat or a multiple coat system.
- Epoxytec A1 Primecoat™ can be applied onto a surface at 6 mils (minimum) - 12 mils (maximum) per coat DFT.
- For a total coating thickness exceeding 12 mils, multiple coats are necessary.
- Theoretical Coverage
- Epoxytec A1 Primecoat™ has a small percentage of solvents.
- Therefore, the theoretical coverage properties between wet film thickness (WFT) and dry film thickness (DFT) are the different.
- One-hundred and thirty (130) square feet per gallon at 10 mils thick DFT.
- Actual coverage will depend on surface conditions, irregularities, and surface profile.
- Application Method
- Brush, roller, spray.
Equipment Options:
- Brush: Good quality 4” wide brush with short hair bristles.
- Roller: 1/8” – 1/4” mohair
- Conventional Spray: DeVilbiss MBC-510 gun; E Tip and 704 Air Cap; 1/2” ID material hose; double regulated pressure tank with oil and moisture separator.
- Airless spray - Graco 30:1 ratio pump with large surge chamber; Reverse- A-Clean tip with .019” to .023” orifice.
- Thinning
- Epoxytec does not advise thinning Epoxytec A1 Primecoat™.
- Pinholing due to solvent addition could be a result.
- Surface Preparation
- The success of any coating application is directly proportional to the completeness of the substrate preparation and the care the application crew puts into the application.
- Surface must be clean and sound.
- Remove all dust, contaminants, grease, curing compounds, loose rust, impregnation, waxes, foreign particles, and disintegrated materials from the surface, in order to achieve a clean and profiled surface.
- Before preparing steel, please inspect and remove oil, grease, or other contaminants - “Solvent Cleaning” (SSPC-SP1) may be required.
- Ideally, abrasive blasting or other approved mechanical methods are recommended in order to achieve a clean surface with a minimum profile of 1.5 - 3 mils
