- Features & Benefits
“Green,” Environmentally Friendly With No VOCs, No Solvents, 100% Solid:
- The Uroflex 61 material releases zero VOCs and zero solvents; therefore creating human-friendly and environmentally safe applications.
- Its ease of application also contributes to a near‐zero carbon footprint.
Flexible, With 38% Tensile Elongation:
- Using a proprietary blend, urethane-modified-epoxy; the product can withstand expansion and contraction, as well as vibration from the substrate without cracking or splitting.
- 38% elongation makes the product more tolerant to tank movement, steel and concrete expansion/contraction and hairline cracking, traffic and ground movement, etc. (more generic epoxies typically yield somewhere between 3% - 6% tensile elongation, making them quite rigid)
Adhesion:
- Adhesion is one of the most important features of any coating in preventing corrosion in the long term.
- Uroflex is self-priming and has excellent adhesion up to 2,000 psi on steel and substrate breaking bond strength on concrete (greater than the cohesive strength of the concrete itself).
Forgiving & Surface Tolerant:
- This is where Uroflex 61 shines.
- Uroflex 61 has been proven to be surface friendly.
- The coating can often bridge the gap when unknown environmental control limitations occur (often happening unintentionally), the coating is able to be applied and outperform better than typical surface-sensitive competitive products.
Self-Leveling & High Gloss:
- This is important for several reasons.
- The urethane modification to the epoxy makes the coating UV tolerant (great for above-ground structures).
- The high gloss finish of Uroflex 61 is easy to clean, keeping offending buildup and other contaminants from damaging the coating.
- Its self-leveling capabilities allow the coating to "wet" the surface properly and fill bungholes and cracks adequately.
- Also the urethane crosslinking provides the Uroflex 61 increased impermeability characteristics, making it a long-lasting durable sealed system.
High Build (16 to 50 Mils in a Single Pass):
- What this means to the applicator is that they can apply a thick coating the first time and eliminate multiple coatings costing time and labor, which results in costing money.
Durable & Resistant:
- While Uroflex 61 has proven itself as a simple 2-coat system.
- Resists corrosives, seals, and creates a barrier to infiltration or exfiltration.
Repairable:
- Uroflex coating is a system that can be recoated, repaired, and touched up without complicated preparation- simply clean and degrease, and solvent rub.
- Maximum recoatability would be recommended with light abrasion.
- This makes having a preventive maintenance program feasible budgeted life-cycles; requiring simple visual inspection and touch-up (often just with a brush) when needed.
- Doing this can extend the life expectancy for decades with minimal investment and uncomplicated application.
Moisture Tolerant (Moisture in Concrete):
- Very few protective coatings can withstand the often high levels of moisture without failing.
- The coating also performs well in humid environments such as closed tanks, pipes and underground structures.
Applications & Uses
- Applications
- Application Area
- Typical Uses
- Uroflex 61 has been proven in many aggressive enclosed, immersive, and partially opened environments.
- Uroflex 61 performs in areas subject to chemical attack, erosion, and overall corrosion.
- Ideally suited as a protective coating/lining solution for water and sewer collection, distribution, and treatment structures, tanks, pipes, stations, manholes, etc (ultra-high hydrogen sulfide [H25] resistance [600ppm] and resistance to sulfuric byproduct).
- Joint sealing.
- Seamless and sealed coating & lining.
- Protect from corrosion of steel and concrete, and more.
- Film Thickness
- Uroflex 61 can be applied onto a cementitious surface at 15 mils (minimum) to 25 mils (maximum by roller/brush) or 65 mils (maximum by spray) per coat at 77°F.
- For a total coating thickness exceeding 25 mils (by roller/brush) or 65 mils (by spray), multiple coats are necessary.
- For potable water environments, do not exceed 40 total mils DFT.
- Uroflex 61 can be applied onto a metallic surface at 8 mils (minimum) to 15 mils (maximum by roller/brush) or 25 mils (maximum by spray) per coat at 77°F.
- For a total coating thickness exceeding 15 mils (by roller/brush) or 25 mils (by spray), multiple coats are necessary.
- Uroflex 61 has self-leveling properties and will pull back from profile peaks and settle into the valleys as it levels; therefore, if the substrate has peaks, take precautions as edge retention may prove challenging.
- Theoretical Coverage
- Uroflex 61 is a 100% solid coating that will not shrink.
- The theoretical coverage properties between wet film thickness (WFT) and dry film thickness (DFT) are the same.
- 80 ft2/gal at 20 mils.
- Actual coverage will depend on surface conditions, irregularities, and surface profile.
- Surface Preparation
- The success of any coating application is directly proportional to the completeness of the substrate preparation and the care the application crew puts into the application.
- Surface must be clean and sound.
- Remove all dust, contaminants, grease, curing compounds, rust, impregnation, waxes, foreign particles, and disintegrated materials from the surface, in order to achieve a clean and profiled surface.
Concrete:
- Prepare the concrete by abrasive blasting, high-pressure water cleaning, and/or approved mechanical method to achieve clean, sound, and profiled concrete.
- Prepare concrete in accordance with SSPC-SP 13/NACE No. 6. "Surface Preparation of Concrete."
- Although priming is not required, in some cases when suspecting excessive moisture vapor transmission (MVT), out-gassing, or other impediments - an Epoxytec recommended primer may be considered.
Steel:
- Before preparing steel, please inspect and remove oil, grease, or other contaminants- "Solvent Cleaning" (SSPC-SP1) may be required.
- Remove all sharp peaks, including weld spatter.
- Abrasive blasting (or other approved mechanical methods) must be used in order to achieve a clean surface with a minimum profile of 3 mils.
- Stripe coat all edges and peaks with an Epoxytec recommended primer.
- To prevent flash rusting, consider the use of an Epoxytec recommended primer.
Wood:
- Remove all grease, oil, dirt or other foreign matter by solvent or detergent washing. abrasive sanding and washing (allow to dry and prime using an Epoxytec recommended primer).
- Application Method
- Mix 1-to-1 by volume and be aware of pot life (higher temperature and mass accelerates pot life).
- Options: Brush, rollers (shred-resistant), squeegee, airless/air-assisted airless, and/or plural component spray airless/air-assisted airless equipment.
- Heated lines and guns could be used, but not required.
- Epoxytec recommends Uroflex 61 as a two-coat system.
- Note: If spraying, Epoxytec recommends at minimal the use of a 0.023” orifice spray tip or greater, 64:1 ratio spray pump or greater, 3/8” hoses, with 1/4” whip.
- Other options available: Epoxytec EZ-Spray System (disposable cartridge spraying).
- Thinning
Epoxytec does not advise thinning Uroflex™ 61; pinholing due to solvent addition could be a result.
- Applications
1‐to‐1 Mix Ratio:
- What this means to the applicator is that it is easy to mix, with no complicated mix ratio, meaning less room for human error, higher installation success.
Ease of Application:
- Uroflex 61 can be applied by brush, roller or spray, when other coatings require expensive application systems that range from $50,000 to over $100,000 per spray rig.
