- Benefits
- Polymer ST 61 is a silane-terminated polymer for formulations which meet the demands of ecolabels such a “Blauer Engel” or “Emicode EC1”.
- The mechanical performance of Polymer ST 61 allows high dosages of fillers without compromising the tensile strength of the formulation.
- Characteristics
- Release ofMethanol
- Modulus of Formulation: High
- Polymer Backbone :PPG
Applications & Uses
- Applications
- Compatible Substrates & Surfaces
- Adhesive & Sealant Type
- Applications
Polymer ST 61 allows a high degree of flexibility for the formulations: adhesives with high strength and hardness are possible as well as soft adhesives with high elasticity.
Example I:
- Tensile strength 1.65 N/mm²
- Elongation 140 %, Shore A 53
Example II:
- Tensile strength 4.4 N/mm²
- Elongation 80 %, Shore A 73
- Processing
- When selecting raw materials, especially when it comes to fillers (e.g. CaCO3), it is re-commended to use products with the lowest water content possible. Fillers can be pre-dried before use.
- Containers should be stored at a similar temperature to their surroundings as to reduce the chance for water condensation. This is of particular importance when materials are stored outside in the winter months.
- It is necessary to keep all equipment used for processing clean and dry. Surfaces can be cleaned with volatile solvents, such as acetone, if necessary.
- The product is activated for reaction once the catalyst is added or when exposed to moisture. After this time it must be kept in closed, dry containers.

- Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
Framework of the LCA
Goal: Calculation of the environmental performance of products manufactured and sold by Business Line Interface & Performance
System Boundary: Cradle-to-Gate
Functional Unit (FU): 1 kg PoLYMER ST 61
Methodology: All our Life Cycle Assessments are following the principles of ISo 14040/44 and ISo 14067 standards. The established method of the Dutch Environmental Science Research Center Leiden (CML) with characterization factors from November 2013 was used.
Data Sources: The LCA was created in 2014 by an internal Life Cycle Management team. The LCA is based on primary data from the year 2014 by Evonik for the production process, while secondary data from databases (such as GaBi and ecoinvent), suppliers or literature is utilized for external processes and raw materials. The software GaBi 10 was used for the LCA modeling. The data for energy consumption were updated with values from 2021.
Cut-off rules for the inventory: In general, 1% for single inputs and below 5% for the sum. No environmentally relevant flows were neglected. Some utilities of production processes have been modeled analog to known processes. Transports have been considered but distances have mainlv been estimated. The result uncertainty in all categories is about ± 20% as these results base on several assumptions.
