St. John's Wort CO2-TO Extract is a stiff brown product at room temperature with a characteristic smell. Under cool storage water can separate. This product is produced by supercritical fluid extraction with natural carbon dioxide, no solvent residues, no inorganic salts, no heavy metals and no reproducible microorganisms. Ideal for application in natural remedies and in cosmetic preparations because of the wound healing effect and inhibition of microorganisms, in creams and preparations for treatment of impure skin, as additive with preservative properties, and internally for treating mild depression disorders.

Applications

Traditional use:
St. John's wort is used in herbal medicinal products for the treatment of mild to moderatedepressive phases, as well as for the short-term symptomatic treatment of mild depressivedisorders [2].
In food:
According to Annex IV of the Flavoring Regulation (Regulation (EC) No 1334/2008), theuse as flavoring extract in food is restricted to the use in alcoholic beverages.

In food supplements:
Due to the enrichment of Hyperforin in the extract, we cannot exclude the possibility ofclassification as a novel food according to Regulation (EU) 2015/2283. Also, we currentlyhave no reliable evidence of significant consumption of the extract before 15.05.1997.

In cosmetics:
St. John's wort extract is rich in hyperforin, which has an antimicrobial andanti-inflammatory effect. It also helps to reduce water loss from the skin. As a result, theextract can be used in various skin care products for sensitive, irritated, dry and impureskin [3]
