Identification & Functionality

Animal Feed & Nutrition Functions
Origin
  • Carob or St. John's Bread trees are a famous and many thousands of years old crop, cultivated on the table lands around the Mediterranean, growing carob fruits or St. John's Bread, which are collected during august-september.
  • Carob fruits, having a size of 10-15 cm. contain kernels which are used after drying and extraction for the production ofd L.B.G., Locust Bean Gum. L.B.G. contains a high amount
  • of polysaccharides and is used as a stabilizer in many food products.
  • The remaining Carob or St. John's pulp is well-known because of its energy and astringent value, due to the high content of natural sugars and tannins.
  • Caromic is produced from carefully selected and dried fruits by a toasting and milling treatment, maintaining the especial dietetic properties of carob, however resulting to a dried product with a moisture content of max. 6 pct. and a particle size of max. 105 micron. Consequently by this high technic process, a quality product is obtained which can be recommended for advanced animal feed.

Features & Benefits

Features
  • Caromic has an extremely high digestibility and, a very good palatability due to its high natural sugars content.
  • Caromic is, due to its high digestibility, often used in speciality feeds for animals under stress (race horses) or in feed for animals with low or no lactase production (pets and rodents).
  • Caromic contains approx. 3,5 pct. tannins (polyphenolics) and a low starch and pentosanes percentage. Tannins are found to be NFE particularly if fed in green and unripened beans and fruits.
  • Caromic is produced from ripe fruits, being stored a long time after collection.
  • The Tannins present in Caromic have a positive influence on the activity of the small intestine and clean the mucous membrane from coli bacterium and different strains of salmonella. (Pasteur Institute tests have proven these porperties).
  • Caromic if incorporated in feed, is always resulting to an increase of the viscosity of the feces, caused by a reduction of the moisture attraction from the intestine wall.
  • As a result of the processing of Caromic, the properties, if compared to the carob fruit, are improved considerably.

Applications & Uses

Applications

Recommendations for the use of Caromic in animal feed. Caromic is a natural ingredient for animal feed, that in many cases can replace anti-biotics or expensive living organism, like lacto bacillus and yeasts.

Feed manufacturers and farmers are recognizing that the unique properties, present in Caromic can be used for a better quality feed, in many cases without price increase.

General: Depending the purpose of its use and the kind of animals 5-10 pct. can be used without any restrictions.

Piglets: It is strongly recommended to use up till 5 pct. Caromic in the feed, given 1 week before and up till 1 or 2 weeks after weaning, particularly in formulations not containing anti-biotics. The addition of this 5 pct. Caromic can be reduced from the dosage of whey powder, normally used in piglet formulations.

Cattle: Caromic can be used in mineral concentrates to improve palatability. Moreover it can be used with good results in milkreplacers for calves, for rearing and fattening. It can be used with good results in anti-scouring mixtures.

Sheep & goats: Caromic is feed as a scoure of free available vitamins. It should be used in milkreplacers and the first milkreplacing pellets. Diarrhea resulting from fresh grass can be prevented.

Poultry Feed: A dosage rate of 3-5 pct. of Caromic in broiler and layer feed will reduce the moisture content of the feces, which often results from gastrointestinal virus infections.

Horses: Carob fruits has been used since the antiques for feeding horses. This experience is used now by many horse-feed manufacturers.

Rodents & rabbits: These animals can very well digest Caromic. The high energy content and digestibility have a positive influence on the condition and gloss of the fur.

Petfood for dogs: The use of 3-5 pct. Caromic will prevent and improve soft feces and will reduce the social problem of the odor. Similar like with rodents the use of Caromic in dogfood will improve the condition and consequently the gloss of the fur.
