Polycarbonate is a transparent material and belongs to the group of amorphous engineering plastics as well as to the polyester family of plastics. It has a high stiffness and extremely high impact strength. It also has a high glass transition temperature and heat deflection temperature (approx. +130 °C). The continuous operating temperature of PC ranges between approximately -60 °C and +120 °C. The material is highly resistant to high-energy radiation. However, it must be stabilized against UV rays, otherwise yellowing may occur. Like all polyesters, PC is not resistant to hot water (from approx. +60 °C) in the long term.

Polybutylene terephthalate is a semi-crystalline material from the polyester family of plastics and, due to its good thermal and mechanical properties, is counted among the polymer group of engineering plastics. It has a high surface hardness and good sliding and wear behavior.

Polyetherimide has a high mechanical strength in connection with a good chemical and heat resistance (operating temperature up to +170 °C), good dimensional stability and creep resistance. lts unique torque strength permits the economical substitution of machined fabricated small parts from steel.

Polyvinylidene fluoride shows a higher tensile strength, pressure resistance and dimensional stability than the related PTFE, but friction and insulation properties are lower. PVDF has a high mechanical strength and toughness at lower temperature and it’s self-extinguishing. The operating temperature ranges from -30 °C to +150 °C. PVDF shows a high resistance to chlorine, bromine and high-energy radiation.

E-CTFE is a linear block copolymer and belongs to the group of amorphous high-performance plastics. It is highly UV and weather resistant and also withstands high-energy (radioactive) radiation. Ethylen-Chlortrifluorethylene exhibits an extraordinary impact strength at temperatures ranging from -76 °C to +150 °C. A great part of the product properties attributes to the very smooth surface and differentiates HALAR® from other fluoropolymers. Due to the fact that E-CTFE is very pure, this material is being used to process chemicals and ultrapure water for the semiconductor industry. Also the permeation resistance to oxygen, carbon dioxide, chlorine gas and hydrochlorid acid is 10 to 100 times better than PTFE.

Polyethylene terephthalate is a semi-crystalline material from the polyester family of plastics and, due to its good thermal and mechanical properties, is counted among the polymer group of engineering plastics. It has a high surface hardness and good sliding and wear behavior.

This amber-colored, transparent material belongs to the group of amorphous high-performance plastics. Polysulfone has a good heat deflection temperature and heat aging resistance (-100 °C to +160 °C). In addition, this material has a high hardness and strength, very good hydrolytic stability and high radiation resistance (permeable to microwaves up to 2.45 GHz). PSU also has high dimensional stability and resistance to β- and γ-, X-rays and infrared rays. However, PSU is not UV stable and notch sensitive.

GEHR PE-ELS® is a variant of PE-HS with improved electrical conductivity. By means of a special conductive carbon black, the volume resistance could be reduced to ≤104 Ω and the surface resistance to ≤105 Ω.

Polyphenylensulfone is an amorphous material, with improved impact and hydrolysis resistance compared to PSU. This amber-colored, transparent material is usually used in a black color, which is why we only offer it in this color version so far. The usual operating temperature is approx. +170 °C. The extremely high notch impact strength remains also after a heat aging.

In addition to its high strength, hardness and toughness, it has a high heat deflection temperature of -40 °C to approx. +100 °C. However, the good damping capacity can only be achieved after conditioning, so this material should be re-conditioned after tempering. The material also has good sliding and dry-running properties. Due to the increased moisture absorption behavior in comparison to other polymer materials, possible dimensional changes as well as changes in the mechanical and electrical properties must be taken into account prior to material configuration.
